Hi! My name is Loretta, a girl from the U.S. who moved to Japan! I'm here on the MEXT scholarship program as a graduate student, studying to get a Masters in Business Administration. Here are some answers to common questions:
1. Do I Speak Japanese? Yep! I was taught formally in High School and have been speaking now for over 15 years.
2. What are you studying? I'm a recent grad of Yokohama National University's "Masters of Business Administration" Program
3. How old are you?: Year of the dragon. :D The math is up to you.
4. How did you get into Japanese school?: tinyurl.com/yb8yylch
5. What camera equipment do you use?: I film my videos with a Canon 60D using a 30mm Sigma Art Lens and I edit with Sony Vegas Pro 10 (with some help from photoshop). Additional cameras include GoPro Hero 7 Black and DJI Majic Air

Scholarship alert! Here's an example of what I'm talking about, having to "get creative". Even italki, a service I use personally that has also supported my channel as an affiliate has launched a CONTEST for language enthusiasts. The top prize is cash, which you could use to boost your studies. I'm working really hard in school I don't care if I'm 14. But when I tell people that I want to go and study abroad in Japan they just tell me that I'm to young and then laugh at me. But I don't care I will do it even if it kills me I will make it to Japan. And if there's anyone else with the same dream, don't be afraid of what other people think go for it and prove them wrong. God bless🙏

@@polly_9688 It sounds to me like you're already taking your education seriously. You already quite articulate, especially for a 14 year old. And, you clearly have drive. A Quick Note about THE SITUATION THIS YEAR: The travel and school situation in Japan has taken a turn this week. This video was filmed a few weeks ago, and at this point I worried about the timing of uploading this video. HOWEVER I've come to the decision that the topic is all the more relevant ESPECIALLY in the light of those people looking to skip 2020 and travel or go abroad next year. These are tips to stay ahead of the curve, which means a year or MORE in advance. Even if not looking to Japan, these are the tips to help you use this year as a time to assess and prepare for what to do in the future. That being said, all is well on my end and I hope to have a more in depth chat with you in the comments below and in the next vlog! Please stay safe, keep your eye on travel notices from WHO and your country, and if you're feeling especially grim (like me), remember that things WILL go on soon.

Sorry if I sound rude, but it makes me angry when people say they wanna study abroad but don't even bother to look up scholarships opportunities when they are from big countries like the USA. If you aren't able to do an active Google search from home or going to your Embassy, how are you gonna even survive in another country?? I've been trying to study abroad for +5 years but since I am not a native English speaker, and I live in a tiny countryside town in a "third world country" all I can do for now is, as you said, intensive Google search and set up Google Alerts until something shows up. Don't lose hope and keep searching, people! And good luck Loretta! :)

Random question, I have always wondered this but how did you come up with KemushiChan as your channel name.? After I watched your last MEXT video back in August, I started to go full throttle into it. Before January even began, I wrote out everything I have to do for MEXT scholarship and by when. I want to have everything ready, prepared, I probably sound like a broken record by now by how much I talk about wanting to study in Japan. My old department head probably finds me annoying with how many emails I exchange with them in regards to it. But I mean, heyyyy~ Every now and then though, I have to take a break because my anxiety levels start to get whack-o. A few months late to this party, however... I am researching the MEXT scholarship, and am interested in applying for the Research Scholarship. I have found schools I would like to go to, I have been studying Japanese for a while (and will continue to learn until I pass N1), my GPA is great, and I have no worries...except when it comes to forming a research topic. I am a Business major as well, with a concentration in accounting, but will pursue my Master's in Business. My question is how do I create a thesis worthy of the scholarship? Also, I have a side question, they prefer this to be written in Japanese, if possible, but if I am unable to do so, do they look down on that? Thanks for all your help and videos!! They are helping me figure everything out!

I wish to apply for an undergraduate in Japan but of a different course of study from what I did in polytechnic/high school. I did not have outstanding grades, do you know if I can use just my portfolio without showing my results/grades/GPA since it is a of a totally different course? As I do need time to build up my portfolio, I am worried that I am not eligible for it due to the huge time gap. Also, I have no idea "artist residency programs" exists. This video is extremely informative, thank you so much!!

I want to apply for MEXT this year (2023) but I don't graduate until June 16 (I get my diploma and all that). Does that mean that I have to apply for the year 2024 or can I still apply for the 2023 year and go to japan this year to start studying? Thank you!

I start University tomorrow so this gave me a lot to think about, I'm doing a Bachelor of Arts Majoring in Japanese so I definitely want to study abroad in Japan at some point. I should really start looking into Scholarships as I doubt I'll really be able to afford to go without one. My University has 5 partner Universities in Japan so I got some options, hopefully I'll be able to go next year.

Two weeks after starting university my whole city good shutdown due to the global pandemic which threw my plans off by a couple years. After a year of online classes my university at the time decided to cut all the language programs so I had to do cross institutional study for a year to get my Japanese units which wasn't great so I ended up just switching university in 2022. I never been to uni (I'm 23) Im looking for any open or creative programmes that gives work experience or work as an intern in a general creative company and gain experience through that way instead. Could you give some tips or advice please? Thanks! :)

ok, so I am starting at a University in the fall that has a study abroad program, so ... you know. Fingers crossed and all that. But I also have a wife and one year old daughter that the program will not pay for, so I'm looking around for scholarships. Have you come across anything that doesn't have an age limit (I am...let's just say over 30). I'm going to follow your advice but was wondering if you came across something like that.

I'm trying all my best to make progress on my Japanese. My dream is after high school this year, I really wanna study in Japan. My Japanese is basic....(the thing is regardless I have alot, I'm studying my home language in high school since it's compulsory and it's a struggle because I didn't grow up speaking it) but I really wanna take Japanese seriously when I qualify (idk if you're right an enywrence exam to test your Japanese and what I'd your Japanese isn't....) So as a high school student (I live in South Africa), we graduate in Nov 2018 but our final results release around Jan 2021. What advice could you give to grade 12 students wanting to study in Japan next year?

Hi, KemushiChan! I'm writing to you because I want to ask you a recommendation... I'm in my first semester of Biomedical Engineering at a latin american university , but now I want to apply for a Monbukagaksuho scholarship in the undergraduate level. My mom wants me to study Medicine (we recently did some paperwork to do so), but I don't think I have the economic and emotional stability to pursue a degree like that. Therefore, I want to apply for a MEXT scholarship this year and then study a major related to Literature or something like that... The thing is that I am not sure if that is a good idea or not. I mean, I watched this video and you say you apply after you graduated from an US university. Is it better if I graduate and then go to Japan? Or it would be good if I study a undergraduate career in Japan? Do you know some stories of success in the last case? From your perspective, what option would be better? I hope you see this and I'm sorry for the gramatical errors. Thanks for reading anyway!

Hi, I'm in 8th grade and I want to live or go to college or university in Japan. I want to learn Japanese but I feel like if I learn from a book I will pronounce things wrong. I was hoping to learn from somebody but I dont think thats going to happen because I live in Louisiana & I don't think there's anything like that near me. Im also going to start saving up early too. I want to learn more about the history of Japan and culture, its so interesting. It just seems like a beautiful place. Also I feel like if I do decide to go to a college/university when I'm older I wouldn't know what city to stay in or college/university to go to. I want to be a pediatrician. Suggestions? If you have any, like my comment so I can respond back to you.

MEXT is just a scholarship you use to pay for the school of your choice in Japan, so the answer is a google search. First you search for universities in Japan and find one that has an English teaching program. Then if that accepts MEXT then you apply with that school as one of your top choices. It might also just be easier to get a foreign teaching degree and come here as an English teacher, but good luck to you!
