I have this chainsaw and also the 161t the battery on 161t last much longer. On the 220 if you cut tick logs kind using full blade in a few cuts I always run out of battery.

I've had one for a couple of months with two batteries. Wasn't cheap something like $1400 inc a fast charger here in Oz. First time I used it I got 7 cuts and the battery was flat so I've had to reduce to smaller wood. After one use, under the covers is the biggest mess I've ever seen and has to be pulled apart and cleaned out before considering using a second battery. Also the bar oil is just on empty after just one battery. My MS180's cut more wood with a lot less fuss!. Our hardwoods are pretty darn hard thouhg!

Something not sounds right, I have the MSA220C for over 3 years have used and abused for sure over manufacturers recommendation never have any problem. I have used it with all batteries from AP200 to AP500S so far everything seems normal. Now mine is all scratched because of the use, in fact I kind surprise how come this plastic thing still holds on. I have cut tons of wood never have any problem so far.

Thank you for your comments they are encouraging. The wood here is extremely hard (Australia) and that might be a contributing factor, don’t know? Wood season is approaching here so I will persevere and try to sort it out.@@sirvozelo1

@rob6356I have used mine mostly in oak witch I think is kind hard wood for sure I always use sharp chains. I also have the 161T and the MSA300 and in the case of this one the MSA300 it have nothing to do with 220C, is much powerful, so when I go to cut firewood I always take the 3 saws each one have it's purpose. My 220C comes with a 40cm bar then I switch for the 35cm Light 04, yes I lose 5cm in length but I gain little more speed and few more minutes battery time. For what I see here in Portugal now the 220C comes with same 35cm Light 04 bar has I have in mine now. I not know maybe was lucky on my part but yes mine in over 3 years it have cut much, much wood never have any problem, myself I am even surprise how this plastic thing have hold on so much use and abuse. I have all batteries from AP200 to AP500 S, I have used all of themes in the 3 saws I have, however my feeling is the most appropriated for the 220C is the AP300S this because of battery time and saw balance. In the case of the MSA300 yes sure is powerful but in this one cutting oak about 18" to 20" diameter and going in full power 11 or 12 cuts and the AP500 S battery is out of power. This one and the blower BGA86 witch I also have they really drain the batteries fast, I already comment to Stihl manufacturer that I have the feeling of having a Mustang GT with gas tank in the reserve.

I bought 2 x AP300c batteries with the saw. I guess it will find a niche but at the moment I’m getting more use out of a Makita 16” 36 volt chainsaw and a couple of MS180 petrol saws. I’ve still got 6 chainsaws so I’ll get the wood cut one way or another. Thanks again @@sirvozelo1

I have the MSA300 is very fast, unfortunately in full power it last very short time even with AP500. Very much you must go in Eco-Mode or in second speed or you with be out of battery in no time. Also I notice that not like in the 220C or 161T witch I have bout the battery tending to quick got hot on the MSA300. But yes, for sure is a very fast saw.

@@sirvozelo1 yeah I've noticed this issue with both stihl's and Dewalt's new 20 inch battery saws, they require the biggest battery in their platform and those batteries (especially the ap 500) are very expensive. they should do some kind of kit where you can get the saw with more than just one battery but with a reduced price like power tool companies do.

@@benjaminleslie3155 Yes you are right I have the AP 200, AP300, 3 AP300S and 2 AP500 I buy some in Spain and some in Portugal for I live in the border and from my home to a dealer in either country is about the same distance I pay 410 Eur. for each AP 500, expensive in did, and to be honest I with expect more from the AP500. The battery price should come down, yesterday I went cut 3 big oak trees far away from the house so I can't charge wile cutting, with all this batteries and chainsaws I almost run out of power, for a professional use they need reduce the price so we can buy more batteries, otherwise we still need the gas power.

I would invest in some chainsaw chaps unless your trousers are kevlar fibre reinforced. An electric saw will still sever the femoral artery.
