Stihl MS290 Chainsaw Checkup/Tune Up
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
When a customer brings in a chainsaw like this Stihl MS290 for a checkup, they don't usually realize how much stuff is actually wrong with it. In this video we find plenty wrong.

Can you up grade the clutch drive from spur to the rim drive

Yes I believe Stihl offers both versions for that saw.
Is that a streamlight inspection light? Definitely seems way more useful now knowing you can get a little fuel on it and it still runs.

Yes this is my second one and the first didn't die from being submerged in fuel. It just got kinked real bad and stopped working.
can u show how to replace the orings on leaky stihl gas caps thanks

I've found that replacing the entire cap is more cost effective. Half of the time that they leak its due to warpage or some broken part on those flip units. Then you have to replace it anyway.
Is there a good way to clean up the rust on the muffler on this MS290? Mine has the same problem and I don’t want it to get worse.

You may be able to soak it in a product called Evapo-Rust then repaint it.
what do you use to get the gas/oil filters from the reservoirs? It took me 5 minutes each with a pair on needle nose to get them out? lol

I hate this about stihl chainsaws. Before I work on one I say a short prayer and make synthetic oil offering to the chainsaw gods.
does stihl chainsaw ms290 has an adjustable oiler? thanks

Yes. There is a hole under the saw. It has screw at the end of that hole. You can look on google for manual.
Never saw a bar that bad before!

Ya that one was definitely used up. Thanks for watching.
That clutch drum bearing sounded worn out! That drum was ringing like a cow bell 🔔 did you figure out what was going on?

Gotta have more cow bell! Sometimes I forget to hit the record button on the camera and I have no additional footage. I work on so many saws and don't necessarily present them in order so I just don't remember what else I may have done to this saw. Thanks for watching!
Do you have a link for that pressure tester you used?

@@schlomoshekelstein908 I fix a lot of home owner saws so I also see a lot of 3/8 chains on .325 sprockets or the opposite. That'll groove a sprocket real quick.
It's a shame a saw was neglected that long!

OR, its impressive that a saw so neglected held up for so long!

That thing is rough looking. Do you ever watch "Chickanic" videos? She works on chainsaws and small engines

I do watch her videos. As far as repairs go her and I work on very similar equipment. As with all the repair videos I watch, sometimes I disagree with their methods and other times I discover a new way of doing things. I'm sure that statement is the same for all mechanics.
