    Good job on the cut. I see a lot of guys filming timed cuts and they end up rocking The saw backwards and forward. You got it down, the fastest way to through the cut this is to keep the blade as level as you can and keep the RPMs consistent and in the saw’s “sweet spot”.

    Some people are missing the point of the 500i. It’s not about saving a couple seconds here and there, it’s about always starting, always running at peak performance without worry about temperature, altitude, type of fuel mix. It just automatically stays perfectly tuned. No fiddling with carb ever. It sat for a month? No problem it just cranks like it did fresh out of the box. Carbed saws the slow drop in performance is so slow you don’t notice. And unless you are a pro getting the carb back to perfect is a frustrating series of adjustments listening for the 4 stroke and backing it off or leaning it out, testing in wood, changing the idle screw, readjusting readjusting until you realize the darn carb must need replacing.

  • @Andyshine77

    @Andyshine77

    3 жыл бұрын

    You make some good points. The Mtronic models have also eliminated the need for adjustments, though they still use a carb that's electronically adjusted. Now some still prefer adjusting a carb, and they're applications where it's still needed, such as when using a saw on a mill, and when cutting in wildfires where there's a lot of smoke, as the smoke tends to make the system malfunction, and honestly it's quite easy to tune a carb with just a little knowledge. Also there has been a lot of teething problems with these systems from both Stihl and Husqvarna, though the newest versions seem to be very reliable. In a few years we will truly know how successful the 500I is, so far so good. Stihl did quite a bit of testing with the injection system, including using it first in the TS-500i cut-off machine.

    I have the 462 and love it. The thing that gives me pause on the 500i is I’ve seen a 440 with a muffler mod beat and tie two different 500’s and an 046 outright beat the 500. The 500’s may have needed a good sharpener, but still expected it to crush a 440 and at least match or better an 046. For 1400 I expect dominance over 0 series tech.

    If you don't run the same chains, same operator and so on, comparing the saws means nothing. The 500i stomps a 440 and and is well ahead of the 046. Something was off!!! That said nothing wrong with the 440 or 046 , but they do not have the power to compete with the 500i. Besides my videos there have been dyno runs with all these saws, with the numbers to back it up my results. Check out the OPE forum all the info is there.

    @@Andyshine77 Thank you. The new 462 makes exactly the same power as the 460 but it's 500gm heavier. And so much more that can go wrong. Glad I got a 460 and 660.

    Well sorry to say, but the 460 weights 14.5 pounds, the 462 comes in nearly a pount and a half less at 13.2 pounds. The power is very close though. I like the 460, 461 and 462. The main advantage the 462 has is less weight and it's smoother. The 460 and 461 are going to be a bit more durable, though Stihl beefed up the 462 in early 2021.

    @@Andyshine77 The Stihl website in my country shows the 462 as 500gm lighter than the 460 which is 6.5kg. Power is listed as the same - 4.5kw. I just got the info from my 460 manual and the Stihl website. Does this help ?
