I run a ported 400c daily as a work saw and it’s the nicest saw I’ve run in 20 years. They’re just F’n awesome saws. Over a year of service and I’ve never had to repair it. Just maintenance and good fuel.

I've got a 400 set up exactly the same. After a couple months I put West Coast dogs, air filter and bark box on it. It runs like a hot ported saw now! I think the 400 is the perfect medium saw. I just ordered a 362 wrap handle for it too.

Hey killanger I ordered the ms400c today. With a 24 inch bar. I just got back from the Amish Stihl dealership. Someone had just bought the 400c that they had in stock. I put my name on the list I was the only one. So now it's a waiting game till the saw comes in.

Him and I have some of the same friends in my area. The 400 is a really nice saw . If I were doing more hand cutting. I would definitely consider buying one of them. Take care my friend!!😀😀👍👍 Logger Al

Doug I have the 400c and it’s the smoothest running saw I have ever had in my hands. My only complaint was the original bar just like Mike said, had it a little off balance. I put a light bar on mine and actually with the help of Mike from KNL he found me some chains and it totally balanced the saw out with the light bar! I would recommend this saw to anyone!!👍🏻👍🏻 TOA

Thanks for this. See I have a 362cm and it runs and is built so well, but I cut with it and I’m pretty let down. The 400 is on a completely different level! Stihl should have made the newest 362 more like the 400, but nope😒

I have the same saw this is year 2. I run a 20” roller tip hard nose bar full house chain. Love the saw and it is the best Stihl I have ever owned and my first one was a 1967 o41 AV super. The shirt bar works great for what I call plunge cutting on hard learners. Power to weight factor and still built in Germany completely adds to this saw. Be safe and be careful

Pretty sure the 400 is optimized to run on the 25” Light bar or the 20” Regular. In my area the Light bars are hard to come by, dealer was going to give me 25” Regular but I opted for 20” Regular since they had no Lights in stock. No regrets, this saw absolutely rips on 20” regular with great balance. Love this chainsaw, be safe y’all

Wow, that says a lot about that 400 Doug, I really value people's opinions because my main criteria for a saw is user experience. Both the 400 and 462 are enough saw for what I need, but its about what I'll enjoy running more. I wish a dealer around me had a demo day where I could try both side by side.

G'day Indi, how the bloody hell are ya ? The 500 I is 1.3 pounds heavier than the 400C and if you're hanging onto it all day everyday and you don't need that little bit more power of the 500 you'd be silly to use it. I have a 400C max bar length in Oz is 20 inches I fitted the dogs on the bar cover for even pull, Stihl says to leave it in summer mode all year round here. If I'm cutting firewood I take the 400 for limbs and the 660 Mag for the rest , if it gets any bigger I'll use the 880 Magnum 👍.

Place brake on and start it, place it in start position, start it, let it run for 30 seconds. Then kick brake off and run it at full throttle for 30-40 seconds. You will hear it kick down from full throttle……after the 30-40 second run at full throttle, shut it down. You should have heard and felt it reset.
