I have used the MS 251 for 5 years now, and it has been an excellent little work horse. I've taken down hundreds of trees of various sizes. Great saw for medium duty projects.

Great saw for a home owner like me. It's been a workhorse the last 18 months. Felled and limbed 14 large eastern white pines on my property. I'm glad I didn't spend on more saw for my needs. Just the right weight for me and plenty of power for what I required.

Man, im impressed bro. That takes a ton of time and patience. You just made that homeowner saw a pro saw. Much respect !!!

I'm exactly where you're at.. with a 'latest edition' 066 (which is simply a *660* .. ) and I'm waiting for the right financial moment to grab a Meteor for it..

My friend bought a 362, and even though it's physically the same-ish size, everytime I use the 362, and then pick up my 291, it seems SOOO SLOOWWW. So, now I'm thinking it needs a bit more power. I might give it a go, but I just can't afford to ruin a saw right now. Especially with this Equipment overhaul going on. We'll see...

I’m going to have a look for it for sale here in the uk. Pleased you’re learning from it. I’ve only done my saws and I’m far from knowing what I’m doing, but one thing I started to realise is the best thing you can learn to start with is how to use a degree wheel. Once you have learnt, do another vid, and then that might help me with it, haha :)

@@gerbutt yes I pretty much understand the degree wheel, But what I didn't know is what degrees the exhuast and intake durations should be, But the book sheds some light on this. Another thing I found is opening up the exhuast port on the cylinder has some really good gains lol, well all we can do is learn. 👊

Have you heard of the Ope forum on the net? It’s a great source of information and everyone seems real helpful. When I next do a saw I’m going to ask for good numbers on there and then try and work to them. Mine have most been guess work so far, haha, but I’ve been lucky and got good gains 👍

Princess auto seems to have the best deal on carbide . The diamond coated ones can be bought anywhere. Amazon may be a good place to look aswell, Thanks for watching. 👊

Hi Nice video, I also have a Stihl MS 251 and you seem very knowledgeable, my problem is too much compression, I take the sparkplug out and the piston moves nice and free, i took the muffler off piston looks nice and clean no scarring i left the muffler off, put the spark plug in still so much compression that i cannot pull the rope out, any comments or advise would be appreciated, Thanks.

Is it possible your spark plug is the wrong type?, the piston may be hitting the sparkplug, even with over 200psi you could easily pull it

@@PoplarMechanic Thanks for the reply, its not hitting the spark plug its the same spark plug that came with the saw when i bought it new about three years ago and i just use it around the house fire wood etc, it was running great it use to be nice and easy to start put it away for winter tried to start it spring time just seems like to much compression, one suggestion on utube when a saws been laying up for a while put a teaspoon of 50% oil and gas in the spark plug hole pull it a few times with the plug out but that didn't work, i thought it may be the timing, if you think of anything to try would appreciate it, Thanks,

Be very careful with the bottom crankshaft cover screws. They always tend to back out, use some thread lock. Oiler is also an issue have an extra one on hand.

I have a 251. It’s my day one employee saw small saw that can hang out by the chipper. I’m like you though top handle to 70cc and up. Only uses I have for those little guys is if I’m in a tight spot and things gotta get cut up off the rope and chucked when it’s coming down like when stuff is getting lowered to me on a roof or something. Got a little 021 for that kinda stuff. Good video bro. One day I’ll have a Poplarized saw 🔥😉

Poplar Mechanic sick! Got some boom action coming up. Super dead cherry that should have been cut down a long time ago. I was trying to pitch it to this costumer lightly but it’s over everything and it’s dangerous. I got the call because she was out of town and heard about the insane high winds we had and after looking at it I’m in shock it’s not on the house. Lot of scrage came off on her and ended up on the deck but no damage. It’s a big bad tree bro lot of soggy wood in her. Going to be a lot of cuttin coming here soon. Always fun getting fired up for jobs when the snow goes this time of year. We’re garage rats in the winter lol. I don’t even have it half as bad as you got it up there though. Stay safe brotha.

I store mine on its side with the caps facing up, then I crack the oil cap open and let it sit loose in the opening. This allows the pressure in the oil tank to normalize as the ambient temp changes. Once I started doing that, it never leaked a drop.

@@jarrodlenfest4389 It's silly that a top end saw needs to be out thunk to prevent ambient temp changes from effecting oil tank leakage.

Good job on the saw! looks like this wrenching stuff might become an off season time waster. I can't stand those mid range saws either. although i do use my 261 to chunk down tall no taper spars just to save my 200T and energy. good tech video. 👍👍👊

Great i had a 250 for years .sold it to a buddy.then bought a261c and problems starrted ..air valve sticking making saw useless for tricky stuff ....

Got it, 1st thing is you removed the spark arrest. You know we've had a terrible fire problem in the U.S. - California, Oregon and such. I am so glad to see there's no such problem in Canada - super congratulations on that. I do hope you won't be doing any such nonsense here if you visit the states though.

We don't have any forests around here my friend, although there are a couple areas where we do run the spark arrestor, most of my saws actual have them now except the small ones, I find it limits them, I have friends in that area and know about the fires, its terrible, be safe 👊
