The 400 is a great saw, period, and when you consider its size and weight, that thing is a beast! Tha said, if you want to spend 462 money, then don't modify the 400. It comes out of the box just right. And so does the 462 for its price point. I think the 400 is a best all-around saw. It's freaking hyper and can handle a 24"/25" but it also screams like howling deamons with a 20", and for its weight it limbs and fells equally well. The 400 is also my go-to. Just for limbing and bucking tiny stuff, something even lighter and fuel efficient is good to keep on hand too.

Couldnt agree more and if u put a egan straight shot on it that saw really wakes up. MS400 all day and i own a 572xp and love but the 400 power weight ratio IMO is unmatched. And i run saws 10 hrs a day.

I’ve run a 462 and 572 a good bit equally and I prefer the 572 simply because it’s been trouble free where the 462 hasn’t. I love both but I believe the 572 will be the longer lasting saw.

Just a firewood guy here. I run an ms250,ms310, and ms441c currently, and the ms400c intrigues me alot. Most of what I cut is oak and under 18",but i get a fair amount 25-32" also. The 441 handles everything I've got with relative ease, but man shes heavy, lol. You think the 400 would be comfortable running a longer bar, like 28-30"? Would the oiler keep up,or is there a high output oiler available?

I think it could pull a longer bar as far as power although the oiler from factory oils a 25 inch bar ok not as well as i like so i got a 462 oiler which is rated for a 32 inch bar and they also make a high out put as well i have a video on it i think also brian 2 bears on you tube has alot of info on the 3 types of oilers but a 462 oiler fits the 400 no problem

@@MitchellsBackyardLogging good to know, thanks. I wouldnt be running the long bar alot, but if I agree to cut up a tree for firewood on someone's property I've gotta make sure I remove it all. Yeah my oiler on my 441 is barely adequate when I'm runnin my 28" bar and theres no way to adjust mines oiler, which I think is ridiculous on a pro saw. It's got the instructions on the bottom of the saw to turn the screw to adjust it,but theres no hole to access the screw, its solid. Thanks for sharing your thoughts man,God bless.

In another video on you tube I see a 572 beating a 500I.. And here a 400cm beats a 572... lol. A true test is stock vs stock with a perfect log using the same bar and chain on both. I have a 500I and 592xp so it's not like I'm trying to hate one brand here.

Me neither i actually have more husky saws if you watch to the end i do run same chain as i said in the video i cut with these saws most of the day in different forms the same chain cuts where on the backend but the only way a 572 one is if it was ported i do know that and i have seen those videos no stock 572 will beat a 500i unless the 500i has a dull chain thats why i cut three different ways but i do use same bar and chain just at the end of video and the bad thing about u tube you can make anything beat anything but i do honest reviews because im not brand loyal and there all my saws Ive only owned 4 stihls with the 500 and 400 being 2 of them so i really dont care and would have been tickled and the ones who really knows theres no replacement for displacement know this thats why they fussing about 500/572 video that the 500 wins its 8 cc bigger so then i put against the 390 it still one but heres a little secret a lot of times smaller saw will win in smaller wood its faster big saws are slow and torqy for long bars so you can show alot just depends on your knowledge of saws what you choose to believe the 572 would probably beat 400 in a 3 ft round instead of the 20/24 inch wood i got

The chain on the 400c was definitely a little better. The 572 didn't wanna self feed. Seemed like the depth gauges needed a stroke or two. The saws are definitely closer than people want to think. All 3 of them. West coast saws and Egan having the bolt on muffler covers is a real game changer. Hard to find bolt on performance like that for a husky. Sure, it's 'not a fair' comparison but it's how you run your saws and it makes sense to compare them as you run them. Bar and chain swaps are time consuming and tedious. But this definitely goes to show how a difference in a chain makes more difference than the actual difference in the saw performance itself.

@@MitchellsBackyardLogging that seems about right though. The 572 in cookie contests normally beats the 372. And a 400c and 372 are rated the same hp. The 372 supposedly has a bit more torque. Your back box and filter setup clearly breaths better than stock saws. I'd put it very close. But ... 3lb lighter.
