It´s indeed a second APU, the A124 has 2. One does the regular work like engine start and A/C-ing, the other caters for the internal crane and cargo ramps. Besides the towbar they also carry spare tires and tools to fix minor occurencies. These birds fly places we´ve probably never heard of 🙂 Love your channel !

Both APUs feed the same center air manifold so they both power the same systems. Both can start engines and operate TPUs (air driven hydraulic turbopumps) for the ramp. Seems like this aircraft was modified and APU no 2 have been replaced with modern one while APU no 1 remained orignal. KZread have deleted my comment with a link to the cockpit picture showing the modified APU no 2 panel.

Based on the appearance, am I right in guessing that the second APU is kept in the opposite direction, with the inlet facing the tail side?

Awesome!!! In the late 90s I worked at ATL and The Antonov AN-225 Mriya came in.... and they were so happy to show it off to everyone! There were so many guys on the crew, bc they travel with a full staff of mechanics and spare parts (for obvious reasons). Was definitely a treat of a lifetime to not only see it, but to be given a tour by the crew. When it departed, we all held our breath... bc it took nearly every foot of the runway to get off the ground! It looked as if it was barely ascending. Good times and great memories! I ❤ ATL

Stig, my wife and I watch your videos together on the big screen tv. We absolutely love what you're doing and we enjoy learning about the aircraft. You're a great ambassador for AA and for aviation as a whole. I can remember seeing the AN-124 at LAX many times over the years, although I've never gotten to see it up close and personal like on your video, that was awesome. I was really saddened when the AN-225 was destroyed in the war, that was a huge loss for aviation I saw the 225 come in and land at Oklahoma City airport about 15 years go and it's a sight you don't ever forget. Your videos will never be boring because you bring an insight, vantage point and passion that other aviation KZreadrs can only dream about. I'm sure your channel is going to be wildly successful for you, just keep doing what you're doing.

I wish I could show you that but on US carriers we don’t have that option. That’s a very European carrier function. The only cameras that I have seen are on the 777 and that strictly for the pilots to view the landing gear.

Plastic Princess!!....🤣🤣Love it. We also call it Plastic Fantastic!. Next time when a Dreamliner takes off watch the wing flex on rotate. I read that it flexes by 12 feet and testing Boeing flexed the wings to 25 feet. A319 we call it Baby Bus. Another great lesson on in's and out's of aircraft maint. Thanks STIG

Hi stig, I'm working on becoming an Aircraft Mechanic (in school currently), recently I've been very stressed about my tests, and it's drained quite a bit out of me, but seeing your videos makes me feel like I'm still doing the right thing and it'll all be worth it in the end. You look like you're having so much fun and I hope I can experience the same feeling when I get out there. Simply watching you change out a lightbulb gave me a sense of joy and accomplishment just to think I myself could be saying "I did that" after doing something as simple as that. There is an incomplete airframe in an undisclosed hanger that is missing the wings. There was talk at removing the wings from the once operational aircraft and rebuilding the damaged one and then remounting the wings to the airframe on storage. Several issues still remain, first the airframe has to be modified in the exact way that the original aircraft was configured to carry its loads, second if spare engines are not available it will have to go through recertification with new engines which must match the performance of the old ones so as not to stress the engine pylons and mounting hardware. It would be nice to upgrade certain systems to more modern standards but again this would result in certification tests for these new systems.

Antonov opens at the nose like a C5 military jet. It lowers ,& raises to load cargo. They mechanically manually hook together the frames for cargo rollers . 5 guys to line it up properly. There's a video on it. KZread. Revent.

Hi Stig. Thank you for these amazing videos. These are boring but I can’t stop watching! True AVE geek understands what I’m saying. I grew up around these big jets. My father worked for Delta for 46 years and has done everything but fly and maintenance. He died suddenly in 2020. (Heart attack not related to Covid) Watching these videos just reminds me of him and the absolute joy he got from working with the public. He got offered manager positions but turned them down because it meant going to an office and not being with the people. When he retired he was the liaison between Delta airlines and the contractors building the F concourse. I see your passion and it reminds me so much of him. Thank you sir for these videos I really enjoy them. If you are ever in Atlanta and need a spot to stay reach out to me. Although I am about a 1.5 hour drive from the airport in north GA mountains you can go see all that GA has to offer and have a place to stay. Keep the videos coming! See you on the tarmac!

ñow a door issue again. You may have seen the first one in your video. Mentour pilot explained it in a recent video. Not the only one. We will see. In the air again im flying on one Feb 2 2024.

33:05 can confirm haha Was an Intern at a Hydraulic Component MRO facility and was servicing the 777-300ER Semi Levered Gear. Now knowing there was trap pressure inside the actuator I removed the manifold and all the hydraulic oil sprayed onto my shirt and it really did feel uncomfortable after 15 minutes :(

I had HYD fluid sprayed on my face during B777-300 ER LDG change, that happened when I was trying connect the hydraulic tubes from below. Not a pleasant experience at all 😅

I don’t think a video does a 777 justice. Until you actually walk around one you don’t understand how big it is.

Some interesting facts about the AN124 and AN225 (correct me if I’m wrong) Dimensions for both aircraft: -AN225 Length: 84 m (275 ft 7 in) ; Wingspan: 88.4 m (290 ft 0 in) ; Height: 18.1 m (59 ft 5 in). -AN124 Length: 69.10m (226ft 9in) ; Wingspan:73.30m (240ft 6in) ; Height 20.78m (68ft 2in). Engines and controls: -Both aircraft use Progress D-18T engines manufactured by Motor Sich in Zaporizhzhia. -Each engine can deliver more than 20,000 kgf (~196 kN or ~44,000 lbf) of thrust. -A pair of TA18-200-124 APUs are located within the main landing gear fairings. (2 APUs per plane) -The flight control surfaces were controlled via fly-by-wire and powered by triple-redundant hydraulics. -The AN225’s empennage (tail structure) had a twin tail, each on the end of the oversized horizontal stabilizer. The reason for that is that the AN225 was originally designed to carry the soviet space shuttle. Gear systems: -The AN124 has 24 wheels and the AN225 has 32 wheels. (Both aircraft Have a dual front gear) -In the AN225, the nose gear isn’t the only one steerable. 16 more wheels at the back of the main gear can steer too. This makes the AN225 capable of doing a 180 in just 60 meters (197 feet)! -The nose gear can ‘kneel’ down. Cargo compartment: -The complete bottom panel (in the cargo hold) is made out of Titanium. -AN225’s cargo hold was 43,35 meters long (around 142 feet).(fun fact, that’s longer than the first flight of the Wright Flyer) -AN124’s cargo hold is 36.5 meters (around 120 ft) long. -The AN-124-100 is equipped with a system of overhead cranes, which can lift single pieces weighing up to 30,000kg (66,139lbs). -The nose can open in the AN124/225. -The tail can open too in the AN124 World records: The AN225 has set a bunch of world records. Here is a list of the most exciting ones. -On September 11, 2001, during one flight, the AN-225 lifted 5 tanks, the heaviest payload ever airlifted, at 253,820kg (559,577lbs). (Combined weight of the aircraft, cargo and fuel was around 640 tons (1,410,985lbs.)!! -In 2010 the AN-225 carried the world’s longest piece of air cargo - two 42.1 m (137ft 9.5in) test wind turbine blades from Shijiazhuang, China, to Skrydstrup, Denmark.
