Sticky Wicket. Drum duet 5 with Steve Smith
Музыка
In this our 5th improvised drum duet we now get a little more up to date and exchange some firey drum licks akin to an old swing style 'drum battle' a la Gene Krupa & Buddy Rich! All in a good humour though of course.
For this I had moved onto a 1939 WMP Slingerland Radio King set with a lovely warm tone, which incidentally I have exactly the same model dating from 1942 in my collection. Steve was playing a Ludwig & Ludwig Swing kit from 1941 with a much brighter sound. His kit had been recovered in 1990 with a wonderful wrap known as 'Top Hat' which is a rare finish which first appeared on Ludwig & Ludwig drums in around1941.
You can see from our smiles that we had a lot of fun & I hope you enjoy it too.

Steve on a LUDWIG!!! YYEEEAAAHHHHH!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Almost reminds me of the Buddy Krupa and Gene Rich drum battles. 🙃 Have been a Steve Smith fan for years. Great technique, style, and artistry around the set.
Infectiously joyful and wickedly groovy!
My goodness this is making my day Gents. Much respect and admiration to Sticky Steve Wicket Smith!
Nice! Just two guys lovin' drums and having a great time :)
What a joy :) I love the attention you pay to each other's playing, and the musiciality.
Wow, is not enough of an word
I figured these two knew each other! Very cute to see them together!
Something interesting of that Era was the defined pulse the customers could keep a beat to .
Thats some good stuff right there
Very cool. I have to see this drum museum. It's not that far away from me. I'm glad to hear that Steve has a feel for swing drumming. You could hear a lot of gene Krupa in his playing.
get these guys mic'd up!
All that was missing was the remainder of the big band to complete the groove! Awesome!
Wooohoooo! Great stuff, luv it! :-)
