Sticky Rice, Bang Bang Sauce, and Other Reasons To Love Laotian Cuisine
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
What’s spicy, eaten with your hands, and spiked with Hennessy? This week on Cooking in America, host Pelin Keskin visits Khe-Yo, one of New York’s first Laotian restaurants, to celebrate the Laotian New Year with executive chef Soulayphet Schwader - and his mom. Watch for a look at the cuisine and tradition surrounding the annual celebration, and sauce so spicy, it’s named “Bang Bang.”

Doodool Tallah Me 2, that bang bang and tripe 😊 where the party at. Every weekend when I was in army.
Love that my Lao people is representing our food and the culture! We dont get too much notice from the outside world and the outside people! Time for Lao people to shine and grind!
I was very fortunate to have Laotian friends settle in the small town in Iowa where I grew up. The food and the people are absolutely incredible!! I have since moved away from my town and it's always fun when I go to a local Asian market and buy all of the items most non-asian people have no idea to buy. Many times, the store owners will ask me how I know what to buy, I say I have many Laotian friends growing up and they always smile.
Please let her host more episodes!!!! I love her

+Hi hey Thank you!
i rarely comment on youtube videos, but I'm so pleasantly surprised by Eater as a channel and by the host herself I just had to! Great job on everything, from the exploration of typically unrecognised cultures, the production and also the great skills of the host. Keep them coming lads & lassies, love from Glasgow, Scotland 😊

Eater Kids were made dishes that aren't spicy along with spicy food. I remember rolling up sticky rice and eating it with shredded pork and having soup on the side.
We first refuged in Thailand and ended up residing in Kansas back in 84. My siblings and parents connected with a generous and helpful Lao family at our first place called home in a apartment that we lived at. Small world that he’s from there as well! Wichita still has a decent Vietnamese community there too!
We need more laos restaurants in the states..."authentic "

Homegirl is a pretty good host. Very well balanced. Professional yet casual.
a big spread of food, eating with your hands, and lots of shots of alcohol? all of that sounds awesome, I think I was Laotian in a previous life.
You guys have one of the best hosts : Lucas and Pelin all did a wonderful job. Definitely need to continue do more series with them.
It's not a true Laotian party without a bottle of Hen co-starring!

Love to see my country's food represented so well and making a name for itself!
my bestfriend is lao and i would always come over to eat. i love sticky rice, ka poon and the lao sausage!
The misunderstandings surrounding laotian food reminds me of the king of the hill episode where they meet their new neighbours. "So you, Chinese?" "No, Lao." "So...you Chinese?"
Traveling to NYC with my gf + her family (all laotian) and will definitely try to bring them to Khe-Yo! Thanks for sharing the video.

Laotian food is amazing stuff! My mom is Laotian and she came here to the US in 1994 after living right on the border of Laos and Thailand for most of her entire life. Hope to see more videos on Laotian food in the future!

Thank you Eater for sharing all food cultures. Please do more!
I was really excited to see this video! When I was in Laos the food was fantastic, and exceptionally spicy, but I haven't been able to find a true Laotian restaurant in Chicago. The search continues!

@@pisathongsonlone3935 I don’t think a lot of Lao people out there, might be some, but probably not a big enough community. I know there is a lot of Cambodians out there though, I have many friends there.
I'll take everything!!!! Proud to be Lao!
im currently in new zealand and i love lao food but not many people know what even laos is but when i bring some of my friends over and they have a bite of laos food the love it hahahaha
Thank you for this video. I know it may seem like a simple thank you but this truly means a lot to the Lao community. Most of the time, Laos is shrouded over and basically unheard of. It's nice to see a video with quality content about my culture.
I just came across this channel and it's great! Not only are you exploring dishes often left in backdrop; like Laotian food, but the hosts are also all great! Nick is super descriptive and passionate Lucas knows every god-damn language out there and goes to great places worth visiting & Pelin is super likable and informative!! Great Job Eater!

Brought a smile to my face.
I love this host. Very adorable.
Wow, what a great video :)
Great job Eater! This new series and its host is fantastic. And right on the heels of Dining on a Dime too! Pelin and Lucas would make an AMAZING show together - but then the internet would probably implode from the awesome. Also, I do not know the context of the statement, but you can hear that lovely old mother murmur "My God, I love you!" at around 3:40. I'd like to think it as a reaction to a person (and a crew) being kind, funny, and respectful to a culture and a family. Keep pumping out the great content you guys! Much love from the Philippines.
Food looks delicious. Yummy.

i love laos food:) gotta make some lab gai now:) but i don't have sticky rice:(
omg the mother is cute. her son is nice
Witchita, sounds like a pretty cool town. :)
If you guys ever visit Orlando FL go check out sticky rice. I highly recommend it. One of my fave spots there. I’m from Tulsa, OK. When I’m in nyc I’ll check this spot out myself and get some white strings tied too hopefully lol.
I love this channel but all I see is focus on Japanese omakase series which is really boring - not all love Japanese food. Honestly the thought of eating raw is fish beyond my cup of tea. Now this is something refreshing with this wonderful host making it 10 times better. Please increase the length of the show.
Yasss where all my Khon Lao at✌
Great video. Will u try Indonesian food in the future?
