I think that there are 3 other key things to blame: 1- The regulations that NASCAR gave to the Fords in the late gen 6 days. 2- Tony’s relationship with Ford after they refused to let him sign Larson. 3- How crappy the Next-Gen Fords are.

I remember watching that 2018 Talladega race live, and at the time I thought it was super boring. I've had a change of perspective since then and can now appreciate just how good SHR was that day. We may never see that level of dominance over the rest of the field in a superspeedway race again. Sure there's been times where a team can control the front of the pack, but never to the level where they can just, drive away from the main pack no matter how hard the pack tries to stop them. It's super impressive and I wish that race didn't have the late yellow/overtime because I want to see what would've happened if the teammates battled it out on the last lap.

Yes. One to 23XI and the other to Trackhouse or Kaulig. John Hunter Nemecheck to the 67 or maybe even Carl Edwards if he's willing to make the commitment. Trackhouse could make the 91 a charter with SVG if he wants to come to the cup series or maybe an oddball in Brandon Jones. If sold to Kaulig give Daniel Hemric the 13, because Chandler Smith probably isn't ready for Cup. If they keep the charters and Almirola retires, give Michael McDowell a shot because he's obviously outperformed his own equipment this season with Zane Smith to the 34 or just Smith to the 10. Preece has to go. Again maybe the McDowell and Smith situation if one of them goes to the 10, or maybe Riley Herbst. Preece could go to the 98 like Custer moved down or to the 34 say McDowell comes.

I think the biggest sign of how terrible things are for SHR can be seen with how the 41 team has faired since 2018. 3 different drivers, all of which good drivers AT WORSE, and yet all of them looked awful in one aspect or another and the last 2 were swiftly replaced. SHR is struggling so bad that individual efforts from their drivers are immensely hard to come by; personnel on those cars need to be changed very soon if they wanna recover.

I really hope they can make it through the slump as they are my 2nd favorite team. Even though their troubles started in 2021 I wouldn’t be surprised if most of their problems are due to them struggling to adjust to the next gen car, like how Roush and RCR struggled big time with the gen 6 car. At least both of those teams survived and are back on the rise with the next gen car.

A late comment, but maybe worth mentioning in a future video, I think the Next Gen car is making it harder for them to recover. In the past if you were struggling you could look to the innovators on the team and maybe they find some grey areas in the rules to grab a win or two. You can't really do that now, so if you're slow you'll keep being slow until you hit some setup or engine shop magic; which is far harder imho.

To be fair, everyone said this about Hendrick a few years back. Jimmie Johnson Jr and Kahne were declining and Chase hadn't quite developed. Now they have back to back championships with two different drivers and the other two guys are consistent and reliable. They are also extremely young meaning their chemistry together has plenty of time to grow and develop. The problem with SHR is that they have an extremely limited developmental system and it feels like there's a rift between Stewart and Haas.

One thing that I rarely, if ever, see mentioned in coverage of SHR's decline is that, from an advanced metrics standpoint, there were warning signs as far back as 2019. David Smith, when he was with The Athletic, published an article documenting that both car- and driver-centric analytics showed that SHR, aside from Harvick, was off from the previous season, and that it could well be a sign that the team was overly dependent on him and Rodney Childers to maintain their frontrunner status.

Ferrari from 2018 to 2020 is the same thing. Title contenders to mid pack underachievers. Their last champion left in 2018 and their last title contender left in 2020. In 2022 there seemed to be progress and won 4 races, but that’s it. They can’t develop their car and their drivers make mistakes. No title.

Harvick’s back must hurt from carrying the team the past 4 years or so. SHR’s downfall is staggering to say the least. Briscoe looks completely lost, The bright lights of cup were to much for Cole Custer, and once Harvick retires at season’s end, SHR is screwed.

I wish that you mentioned how the cup team was doing before Tony Stewart joined, because it seems like it might be returning to that mediocre position. I would be surprised if Tony Stewart has put most of his attention on SRX, since most of Gene Haas's teams have done pretty poorly when he's the only one running them.

One small correction, Riley Herbst is trchnically sponsored by Monster drinks through his family's gas station chain which runs through the highways of the southwest and vegas. I expected a good season from Herbst and he's delivering top 10s and top 5s, but he's just Daniel Hemric with money at this point. A sign that the team was falling into the shitter. Gene Haas contacted a former f1 driver who was let go, Dany Kvyat, to come to the US at the Martinsville chase race in 21. He didn't sign , instead trying to get into Toyota but the car he had was a shitbox and w left for WEC after last year's horrible season

Imagine saying in 2018 that SHR is gonna be like this in 2023... Everyone would laugh. I can trace 2 more points of SHR's downfall. Many new tracks that the driver did not know for sure has to be there. And, all the new big teams. The only old(er) teams people still cared for were HM, LGR, TP, and RFR, Nobody cared about a team with 1 elite driver, 2 new guys, and a guy with 2 wins. Sponsors left, and Tony basically stopped caring to be honest.

I’ve said since about 2021 or so that Haas isn’t a good team, Kevin Harvick is just that good a driver he can take a B graded team to A to A+ results. Granted, I thought that started in 2019, the year after their dominance in ‘18, but looking at the average finish total near the end of the video, I’m not so certain that hasn’t been the case for much, much longer.

What people do not realize is that SHR is bleeding some of their top experienced talent and hiring some of the most unexperienced engineers to cost save. The organization in general from a management standpoint is in complete shambles, Zippy has no idea how to run an organization and is too busy working on his hunting show to care about his cup team. All these other reasons, such as relationships with Ford or Tony's impact on the organization have little to nothing to do with the performance on track. In the 2018-2020 era some of the top engineers in the industry from an aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics, along with proper synergy between the groups was the lead reason why they did so well. People keep leaving and SHR has no interest in keeping them since they cost more money and they are cheap-ing out on budgets to fill upper managements pockets.
