I was wondering, what kind of pickups are you using? I wanna see if I can buy those kind of pickups for my bass but I don’t know the name
The solo is easy enough, its the fills that get harder every verse that have been killing me for years.

It can be the point if they want it to. Sometimes it’s good to feel the music and play it naturally. Sometimes it’s fun to challenge yourself to learn every note and detail of a song, down to the improvised fills. The only way you can go wrong is to not play at all. (Or play with bad technique that holds you back).

I really get moved by the sound of good bass players.
I remember having to play this in high school jazz band and never being able to nail down 1:04, felt somewhat embarrassed as i let the brass and horns do that part for me. 7 years later and only having come back to it a month or so ago after not having played this piece, i finally nailed down the whole song down to the random fill variations. All thanks to this video. Feels great man.

This was one of the songs in our rotation in Jazz Band in high school...The "hard part" as we called it, was the part you had to learn and play to try out for Jazz Band...Thank god I played trumpet...never would have made it trying to play this on the bass.

I can’t play it on either instrument. I have both and have been playing them for years. I can’t play nearly that high on the trumpet, and I get a sore lip if I try to go anywhere above the high E. (Am I doing it wrong? Is my mouthpiece not suited for the job? It’s gotta be a problem with my technique, and definitely not an issue with my intermediate grade Jupiter horn!) and I think I actually have more chance of doing it on bass.

I'm an avid guitarist and mediocre pianist, but I'm trying to get into bass more so I can get a better grasp on my timing. Thanks for a lesson for a very tasty bass line!
dude, I had to perform this song in college at least 15 times a week for many different audiences and I have to say that it is one of my most favorite songs too play and was one of my most intimidating songs to be assigned to learned for the set book as I was afraid I wouldn't be able to do I the justice it deserves. My opinion about you as a musician has changed 100% bc this song (if you know how to listen) tells you so much about the performing bassists personality and yours is shinning bright like a diamond!!! easily my favorite video so far. Performance attitude was so much more alive than any other video you have made! love it bro, keep it up and let's phase out those damn tabs!! Guitar player here learning bass - your channel is incredible, so glad I found you!
A long time ago, back in high school, I joined the stage band and I had been playing bass for only about a year and didn't read music and this was one of the songs I was supposed to learn. I couldn't touch it. I was in a rock band and playing ZZ Top bass lines and thought I was pretty good. I tried to learn it off the record since I couldn't read. Not even close. Pretty advanced level, though. This was so humbling.

I couldn't tell you how long I've been practicing the bass line at 1:03.. Probably 3 hours at least, but I've got it down!! i just need to get my right hand stronger. I can only play that fast with a pick. 2:42 is the best bass in the song. I don't give a fu** about the part after the chorus. he's just following the lead. 2:42 is magic.
when i was bass player many MANY years ago. the two hardest things i ever had to learn were What is Hip by Tower of Power and that run in Sir Duke that encompasses the entire neck.

@@chr1st1an111 nah man I don’t think he is this is a pentatonic scale for the solo with fills and once you get in to the groove it will make more sense. A fucking hard bass line is dig by mudvayne.
