He was taken from us not long after. If we knew we'd have all paid more attention and burned every flick of his hand into our memories. So great to have these videos. For those of us so very old people who lived through Jimi Hendrix, Stevie isn't doing anything except adapting the song to Texas blues and throwing some of Jimi's tricks along the way. Jimi's style was rooted in psychedelics. He grew to despise this because he wanted to be thought of as a blues player. Anyway, Stevie is definitely brilliant. I know several people who can play this style but no one does it with Stevie's skill. As a guitarist myself, I can relate to a lot of his technique. But the one thing that sets him apart from all others, including Hendrix, is that he never runs out of something to say. His guitar vocabulary seems entirely endless. No pauses as he tries to think up his next phrase. He is in the moment on every note. I've seen him in concert just before he made it big back in the 80s. He was phenomenal.

There is a video somewhere on youtube (can't remember the concert) where he breaks two strings on the same song and still plays a perfect solo on four strings. At the end he smiles and shrugs when he hands the guitar to his tech. Got to see him three times, he only got better and better. The world was robbed when he died so young. You mentioned his clothes - there's an interview w/his drummer and bass player out there on YT as well, they say the clothes he wore on stage were the same ones he put on in the morning when he got up, said Stevie was oblivious to the looks he'd get in the shopping mall when they went out for pipe tobacco. WYSIWYG

The crazy thing is he is self taught inspired by his older brother Jimmy Vaughn of the Fabulous Thunderbirds and I believe he didn't know how to read sheet music. He plays by feel and emotion, he never played a song the same way twice. Also he used 13 gauge guitar strings which are unheard of. Basically he plays piano wire but had strong hands to accomplish what he needed to do, sometime breaking strings in the process. Suggested Must watch; anything from Live at El Mocambo. Every song from that show is utterly amazing and perfect and untouchable by any other guitarist attempt to match what he did.

Don't know y'all, but subscribing just because you reacted to SRV. Educate yourselves on Stevie Ray and Double Trouble. There are some docs out there and a VH1 Legends on them. I'm an Austin native and the city was traumatized the day he died. Such a tragedy. Check out some other channels where guitarists break down his playing, why it's so hard to replicate and what makes it so special. Good job and I'll be watching y'all.

Not another God of guitars, THE God of guitars. Congratulations, you’ve just witnessed greatness. So many great performances to check out, but I’d start with Texas Flood and go from there. Enjoy!

Keep listening to Stevie Ray and after songs like Voodoo Child in Nashville, Life Without You even Little Wing at the El Mocambo. There a reason he was inducted into The Austin Music Hall Of Fame in 1982, Blues Hall Of Fame, won 6 Grammys, 10 Austin Music Awards, 5 W.C. Handy Awards, Entertainer Of The Year, Instermental Of The Year, inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2015. He was nominated for 51 Awards and won 21. The sad thing is after all of that he only had one #1 hit with Crossfire. He was in my opinion THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL TIME THE TRUE GOAT

Listen to the album Family Style, Stevie Ray and his brother Jimmie together. Jimmie Vaughan is lead guitarist for The Fabulous Thunderbirds, another good band to check out. Or watch Stevie's "sound check" where he stumbles in, hungover from the night before to do a pre concert sound check and does 20 minutes most musicians would be thrilled to pull off in a concert.

I still remember driving in the early morning after the crash. The radio played 3 SRV songs in a row, which was quite odd. After the final song the DJ came on an announced his death. It floored me. I turned the radio off and drove in silence for a long time.

I also think he's the most skilled guitar player ever. No disrespect to Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen and all of the other greats & virtuoso's but in my opinion Stevie Ray Vaughan is the greatest ever. I've never seen anybody play the guitar like him. Not only could he do things that nobody else could he did it effortlessly. Most people regard Hendrix as the greatest, well there is something to be said about a man that can take the "greatest guitar player of all time" songs and play everyone better than he did. And I don't think there will ever be anybody that comes along from here on out that could come close to touching him, In my opinion.
