God i loved this song. whenever MTV played the video i'd snatch the remote from my parents hands, crank up the volume, then start dancing like the guys in the video. i still can't believe it didn't hit #1.

Prince laid down the synth on this uncredited. Stevie was influenced for this song by Prince’s Little Red Corvette.

Fun Fact: Stevie was also given a tape with the Purple Rain song music on it (It was just music not a song and not arranged yet) and Prince asked her to do something with it. After having it a while Stevie said she couldn't do anything with it. Later Prince arranged the Purple Rain music into the song Purple Rain. Stevie still owns that tape of original music that eventually turned into the song Purple Rain.

I once heard her on an interview tell the story of this song. She said she had just gotten married and was in the car headed for the airport to leave for her honey moon when Prince came on with "Little Red Corvette" and "I said, WHO is that?" After being told she remembered she had this poem that she had written at some point earlier and got this idea for this song, called her producer and she said her husband was a very good sport and let them go into the studio to produce this while she was supposed to be on her honeymoon! I mean I assume they went SOMEWHERE or whatever after but I just never completely forgot this story. Some of the details might be off but not by much.

Check out her performances of Stand Back from SNL in 1983 and Solid Gold from early 1984. Crazy good. The Wild Heart is one of my favorite Stevie albums and you can begin to hear the change in her voice with a higher sounding vibrato that started to take hold in 1982 from the excessive use of coke. "Beauty And the Beast" from this album is absolutely stunning!

This was all over the radio back in the 1980s. Every time you turned the dial you either ran into the beginning, middle or end of this song. It's still played on classic rock stations. Those lights on the catwalk were neon lights. They've mostly been replaced by LEDs.

Hands down one of my favorite Stevie solo songs. I still just want to twirl around the room listening to this. Prince was actually very interested in collaborating with Stevie. He had envisioned a duet. Prince sent her a song that he was working on hoping she would record it with him. ( Yes- she still has the demo ) Nicks called him and said she felt from an artist perspective that it was something that he should record by himself- it was that good and was completely him. It would later be recorded by Prince as a solo- it was “Purple Rain”.

She later met up with Prince again at the "Purple Rain" premiere. Afterwards, he asked her what she thought of the film and she told him she was bothered by the violence towards the women in the movie, got up and went to the ladies room and stayed there. Stevie says this seemed to upset Prince very much and it was pretty much the end of their friendship.

In the same year, 1983, he played the solo for The Tubes in She's a Beauty and for the late Kenny Rogers, RIP, in All My Life. Waddy Wachtel is in the band for Keith Richards, when he is on break from The Rolling Stones. RIP Brett Tuggle, who played keyboards 🎹 for Fleetwood Mac, Rick Springfield, others.

The song is Stevie's female response to Prince's "Little Red Corvette". This time, the girl is kept waiting, and is not happy about it. She's not fast, but he is. If you want to hear 2 great examples of Fleetwood Mac's inclusion of synths in their 1980s output, listen to, "Everywhere" (lead vocal by Christine McVie) and "Seven Wonders" (lead vocal by Stevie Nicks). If you want to see excellent, classic Fleetwood Mac videos, watch "Gypsy" and "Hold Me" both from the Summer of 1982.
