@@mikereiss4216 Back in the 1980s I read and heard people describing Van Halen as a heavy metal band, in terms of what that term meant back then. I think labels on music can change over time, also some bands are undoubtedly full out metal and others blend genres, which I think Porcupine Tree did, and so did Rush. The first three Queen studio albums have some sections and moments on them which are as heavy as Black Sabbath were at the time.

He has such an enthusiasm for music that doesn't come off as pretentious or gatekeeping which is sadly hard to find these days. But I could listen to him talk about his favorite albums all day. Thanks for posting this. PS, I'm also thrilled to hear he's a CD enthusiast, being one myself.

I don’t intend this as a criticism, but his personality here is far more open than in years past, and he can still be very aggressive at times which is understandable. This is the guy who has a couple videos up about 15 years ago where he’s destroying iPods with a hammer because of the sound quality being subpar, and him finding that insulting for his own musical production. Which is understandable. But seeing him more open and candid is wonderful. But up until about a year ago he barely had any video material online. He seems like a natural.

I'm glad to hear that a producer and music fanatic as prolific as Steven is defends the CD medium these days. People seem to flock towards vinyl as their physical medium of choice when they start building a collection and while that's good and all, like Steven says, not all music is better on vinyl. Most pre-digital era albums cut from master tapes will always retain that warmer, organic sound, but I don't see why a vinyl copy of say, Black Celebration would be better than a CD copy.

Look, I lost a lot of street cred with millennial when I sold my ~400 albums, however I've now got a wall of ~1000 CDs that take up much less space than the vinyl ever did. Yes, I miss the get it out of the sleeve, put the LP on clean, play, flip, but having the music digitised lossless or available on CD to pore over the case is still wonderful. I admit to only buying CDs that I can't get streaming these days, or just "need" to possess!

Sean Phillips The best kept secret in 1970"s music. Second Contribution just a outstanding piece of music on par with many of the monster albums of the decade. A deluxe version with the Steven Wilson touch could be a awesome Vinyl offering. Oh, wait...You are Steven Wilson :)

6:14 Totally agree. In fact I pretty much only buy cds since I don't have a record player. People seem to have a one or the other mentality though and are all hopping on the vinyl bandwagon. That's fine if you want to pay 25-35 for each album.
