Fun fact. This is actually part of a soundtrack to a video game called Last Day of June. The entire game is based around this song and Steven wrote the entire soundtrack for it

Agreed. And the end solo in Home Invasion Regret #9, is right up there with Gilmour's Comfortably Numb solo, in my opinion.

Yeah this one gets me every time. He managed to pack a lot of feeling into this song.

Steven's work is pure gold. All of it.

In my 61 years on this planet, I’ve not heard a better guitar solo.

Well I’ll hit 62 next month, and I agree.

"This is like a soundtrack." Funny you should mention that. There was a small game released a few years back called Last Day of June which is based specifically on the story in this video, but is also scored generally by Steven Wilson's music. You can probably find it for cheap on Steam or GOG at this point, and won't take more than a couple of days to play through.

That Guthrie Govan solo was done in just ONE take in the studio. He sat down in the control room, plugged in and just played it while the others watched amazed. It couldn't get any more perfect than that. Lightning in a bottle there.

Think Guthrie uses a fretless for the "synth"effect and lead break. Another stunning audio/visual journey.

Steven Wilson said that his first love was music but that if he couldn't be a musician he would be a film maker. In fact, Steven composed most of the Porcupine Tree album "Deadwing" as the soundtrack for a ghost story screen play he was working on, but the film was never made (but what an incredible album, it is my favorite from Porcupine Tree)

This song is based in a comic by Hajo Müller (no... it's not a true story) . He concieved the story behind this.. and then Jess Cope directed the music video (both art styles - in fact she's also responsible for the music videos for Routine, People Who Eat Darkness, The Raven That Refused To Sing and King Ghost - all by Steven Wilson - and also a video for Metallica) It's just a beautiful song.. The instrumental section is amazing... the softness of the arrangement is so captivating!! BTW - There's a new Porcupine Tree (steven wilson's band) out!! You should really check it out!!

Probably my favorite song discovery of the last several years. The video is amazing. But, I'm really glad I first heard the track without the video. Hard to concentrate on both at the same time. That guitar solo at the end is just sooooooo buttery. Mm Mm Mm!

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but the bassist is Nick Beggs who played bass in 80s glam band Kajagoogoo. He’s rather good.

By now this has become a real soundtrack. From the music piece a computer game, called "Last day of June" was made, which got it's own soundtrack album by Steven.

Instant like ....The raven that refused to sing is the third one of this set of songs that deal with grief,loss,depression etc... Also animated. Beautifully tragic.

I think that he has some sort of resolution at the end. I certainly hope so. Great advice about complimenting people- I try to do that every day. I am trying to think nice things about myself, but depression and grief make that difficult. Keep well and keep those reactions coming - I really look forward to them.
