Steven Gerrard sacked by Aston Villa 0516am 21.01.22 that club, aston villa, wants it to be akin to the 80's wherein they, the villa, could do no wrong. weirdly enough he, stevie g, had the right idea and he had them, the villa, playing decent football - if you watch his team playing early on in the season... i really dont know who yo could get to manage it. are they gonna push for signing the ex-wolves manager, the portugese man-o-war..? they could do worse in that respect. or maybe villa wants some decent home grown manager? all in all - there's no one to manage that club. same with man utd... they just just have to plow on until it becomes right again. if newcastle is owt to go by then their new manager will not be allowed to leave the bloody training pitch until Newcastle have some silverware in the cupboard.... such is life... why man utd couldnt create a backroom scene akin to liverpool's seamless transitional tradition from managerial staff to managerial staff (of the 70's and 80's) i do not know. liverpool devised a style to suit it. so why man utd didnt have in-coming mangers work along a set template i do not know....same with the villa - it cottoned on to a style of football in the 80's.... then with each new incumbent the formula that worked well enough was erased until you have what we see here... not one of those guys wearing the villa shirt seem to want to play for anybody - let alone a well respected ex player... if it's any consolation the villa have played pants for a long while now. it's only the fact birmingham can do sod all with it's own set-up that keeps them all going...

I’m a big Gerrard fan but when everyone was saying that he would be our next manager at Liverpool but I have always said that he has to prove himself and at the moment he has no chance. Lampard got sacked by Chelsea which was way too soon for and is rebuilding managerial form. Right manager, wrong time. Maybe it was a bit to big of a step too soon. Gerrard is still a fantastic manager. He should try his hand at a solid championship club next and get momentum back into his career. It's a waste of time managing any of the middling Premiership sides. None of them hold onto a manager longer than a season or 2, their best players are cherry picked at the end of the season by the bigger clubs and you'll rarely break into the top 6 now that the big teams are super bankrolled.
As an aston villa its so far a painful season

This Villa squad can do much better than where they are right now. The only thing they need is a good coach.
Listen I always wondered how Lamps n Gerrard smoothed into the top club jobs they both did at the time. I believe as a manager, and like all the greats did if you know your history, (apart from Jose who is a freak of nature) need to start from the very bottom and put years of graft in at lower level leagues to become a top manager. Derby then Chelsea, Glasgow Rangers then Aston Villa? No way. I mean look at Lamps, it’s only a matter of time until Everton have enough of struggling and then he’s gone. They ain’t ready yet. I won’t dare mention why I personally think they get top jobs easy but if you cover all avenues it always comes down to that.
Villa fans and owners are deluded thinking they should be doing better than 17th. That's exactly their level, just staying up each year is the best they can hope for.

It's the little things for me why I think he probably didn't have the backing from his team. He keeps referring to Martinez as "the goalkeeper". Oh he did. For the worse.
What a day Steven Gerrard and Lizz Truss Gone!
I think he took the jump to the PL to soon. I know when opportunities come it's hard to turn down but he needed to stay at Rangers for another few years. I don't like Rangers but it was too early for Gerrard to leave there. I think he needs to go down to a lower league team to get more experience. There's a few decent size clubs outside the PL where he could continue to learn his trade.
Gerrard & Lampard will be the new Steve Bruce & Sam Allardyce every struggling premier league teams or championship teams will hire them before firing them after few months.
Truss and Gerrard in the same day, bliss…

No he wanted the challenge/opportunity, it made sense to him at the time and he got the experience of how tough it is
Gerrards problem was he did not upgrade the CB-CB-DMF triangle. they need heavy upgrading there. focused too much on building the frontline.
He will do well in championship as manager 👏
Steve Bruce is looking for another team to destroy I mean manage 😅

when you have one of mings, maguire, michael keane. you need to go find somebody to remove that curse. they’re inevitable
Celtic fan here I know I don’t like Gerrard as a manager but he was a top class player I do respect him but he shouldn’t have left rangers when he did to go to Aston Villa
Just as expected but still I think there's something wrong internally. He did well last season but can't tell what the problem is at the moment, I wish him all the best going forward ❤️

Mike Beale left the club. Beale was with him since he was a Youth coach with the Reds. He was regarded as one of Gerrard’s main tacticians.

the problem is the Aston villa owners, they did the same to Dean Smith. This is because on paper, they can beat anybody, but the problem is mentality and lack of chemistry.

Said it as soon as he left Rangers that he’d be sacked by Villa within a year. He’d have done more for his career if he stayed at Rangers. Silly man.
He can join his English friends J. Carragher & G Neville at Sky for punditry. As a Chelsea fan, I just hope G. Potter is a different English man.

Would of been better staying at rangers for more experience, but I understand the draw of Premier league managing
This is the first time I've seen him in any press conference. It's very bizarre.
As soon as he clashed with mingsy he was finished 👍

Nah give it to Saudi FC
Looks like it worked out quite the same for both Lampard and Gerrard. They arent cut out for top tier English football.
He needs to drop down to the Championship, spend a few years building a squad with limited resources and proving he has the ability as a coach and a motivator to deserve another chance in the Premiership. If he can take an unfashionable team up and keep them in the Prem a few seasons, maybe he might come back into thinking as a future Liverpool manager. QPR could be ideal.
A championship job will serve him well.

It’s a Brexit thing….
"If it wasnt for the GK" he's not the opponent GK he's speaking about his own GK who he has worked with all this time and still refers to him as the "Goalkeeper" not Emi, not Martinez just the "GK" think this is very telling!
I hope to see one of the top players being brave enough to turn down a premier league middle to top club as their beginner roles. If a few do this and are eventually successful it may end this trend.
Just imagine the emotions Philippe Coutinho have been going through. C: Steve they sacked you? G: Yes mate. C: But I thought we were together in this? G: Not anymore. C: Cries.

Yeah they’ll get absolutely hammered at Newcastle and probably United as well. Can’t see them beating Brentford or Brighton either tbh. Very average squad Villa have
Disappointing but to be expected idk why but, watching teams like villa and Sevilla sack managers in this mannner is just surreal these players don’t have enough about them to go out there and give it their all even for their last hurrah. You can see the defeatism in their manager whetherLopetegui or Gerrard. To be expected though especially with how they sacked dean smith.

SCOUSERS ARE HAVING A MELTDOWN 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣... Biggest ever Liverpool legend 0 titles 🤣🤣😅😅😅😅😅
The best 2 English coaches in the PL are Graham Potter and Eddie Howe neither had stellar professional playing careers, Steven Gerrad may eventually become a very good manager, this will obviously be a difficult time for him getting the chop but the experience may prove invaluable for him in his next job. The vast majority of managers get sacked , some make a career out of it 🤣 it can be quite profitable, the question will remain should players with great playing careers be fast tracked into high profile jobs, he did very well at Rangers but that's effectively a 2 team league, Aberdeen in 85 were last team outside the old firm to win the league managed by Ferguson. At Everton Supa Frank sits one point above Villa, they have lost their last 3 games, face a very difficult home game against Palace managed by Veira, a loss and all the attention turns on him. I have never understood how Ole got the Man Utd job given his managerial CV would probably not get him an interview at most PL clubs.. Lampard, Marsch who will be next to go ?
Maybe not the special one but defo will not be the end off his managerial career. He will bounce back managing an elite team later on
