I agree. Steve Wariner belongs in the Country Music Hall of Fame with 14 career Billboard #1 country hits, like this classic that went the distance on 4-18-1992. Steve Wariner is not only an excellent vocalist and composer, but one of the greatest guitarists.

Happens a lot more than most men realize! So bittersweet! One that I had to move away from, I lost track of her and cannot find her, when the realization that someone you loved comes to you may never see her again in your lifetime! That just never occurred to me, but just think of some of the friends you went to school with, how many of them if you wanted to call them or visit them could you get in touch with? Most of mine I would not have the first clue of where to look!

The late great, "Whispering Bill" Anderson wrote and originally recorded this song. Bill didn't get a push for "Tips of my fingers", Joe Allison brought the song to Roy Clark and told Roy this is a hit song, Roy recorded it and had great success and so did Eddy Arnold, Jean Sheppard and Steve Warner. This isn't only a 5 time hit, it's pure country gold.

Many versions but this one by far has the most emotion of any of them. I saw Steve Wariner in Edmonton in March 1992 with the girl I loved more than life itself so every time I hear this it makes me think of that time. Her name was Carrie Ann Russell and she was my first true love. It was not meant to be and now I have the greatest wife in the world and would not change anything. If not for Carrie though my life would have taken a different direction and would have never met Heather. Love Steve and he is an amazing song writer also.

This is the song that converted me to country music. On a family trip when I was about 15 years old (probably around 1991) going to see some relatives in Overton Nevada we stayed the night in Mesquite. The clock radio in the hotel room would only pull in country stations. This song was playing that morning and it clued me in that country music was not all about getting drunk and honkey tonking, or getting drunk and driving through a corn field, or something about beer or whiskey (a lot of stupid songs played on country stations these days). There was some good emotion involved in some of it. I've been a country music fan ever since

Wow Steve what an awesome song...... If I wrote this I would be so amazed with the passion that I had harnessed into this song..... I have always been a fan and will be forever, the whole world has enjoyed your talent , and I for one do truly enjoy your music! Hopefully I will learn this song in the future and do a cover on it..... I could never do it justice, my greatest hope is ......I hope they can recognized it LOL! Be wishes to you and yours.... Be safe ! Oh I almost forgot..... most of the Country music songs these days say the same ol thing..... "lets drive my truck thru this one horse town and go down to the river and drink beer with the tail gate down" they really suck these days !

nemesisgenius yes, I remember very well. That’s when my mama used to tour with Ronnie Milsap. I got to meet many of the great country singers, back when country music sounded country.

nemesisgenius Ronnie and his wife Joyce are both two of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Ronnie’s best friend Billy Coren was my mama’s manager. Her album back then was being played nationwide. One of her songs even made it on the charts and David Allan Coe wanted them to record a song together. But singing isn’t all peaches and cream like people think so mama backed out. But it was fun to get to always be back stage at places like the grand ole opry and meet all the great singers, especially the ones who are no longer with us.

I reached out my arms and I touched you With soft words I whispered your name I held your love on the tips of my fingers But that was as close as I came My eyes had a vision of sweet lips Yielding beneath my command I held you right on the tips of my fingers But I let you slip right through my hands Yes I let you slip right through my hands Somebody took you when I wasn't looking I should have known from the start It's a long, long way from the tips of my fingers To the love hidden deep in your heart To the love hidden deep in your heart Somebody took you when I wasn't looking I should have known from the start It's a long, long way from the tips of my fingers To the love hidden deep in your heart To the love hidden deep in your heart I held your love on the tips of my fingers But I let you slip right through my hands Yes I let you slip right through my hands I held your love on the tips of my fingers

@@wandamccarter5494 No, he introduced it to a new generation. It was in the top 10 in 1960 by Bill Anderson. Roy Clark took it into the top 10 in 1863 and Eddy Arnold took it to number 3 in 1966. So over a period of 6 years 3 different artists took it into the top 10. I think that means it was famous before Steve Wariner's version went to number 3.
