I got to see Steve play drums with the Roger fox big band. In palmerston north nz 2005 impeccable drummer. Sublime solos Great gig .

Buddy Rich is #1 and Steve Smith is #2... argue amongst yourselves for the rest of pecking order

This is what drumming is all about, playing music, not soloing like a child in mom’s basement just randomly hitting anything so people can go…”ooohh”. Anyone can solo, but only great drummers can play music. If you don’t know what that means, you know nothing.

Steve is a world class drummer, no doubt - inspirational and willing to share his knowledge of how to be the drummer you can be. Like all great drummers, he’s got his own voice, distinctive and very musical, even when soloing. He, Weckl, Vinnie may be some of the most recognizable but listen to Dave DiCenso play a solo - very musical and amazing! As fellow drummers, we are lucky to have them all.

This is a drumshow......... but where is that relaxt original sound..
