    It is truly great news; so long as the parent company stick to the traditions that made Slingerland one of the greatest brands in the industry.

    It will be interesting to see which Slingerland era is the basis for the new sets. Maybe Radio Kings as well. You would think the price range should be in the USA made Gretsch and Ludwig vicinity, to be competitive. Slingerlands were the best sounding drums, but could improve on their fittings and hardware ,with today’s modern technology. Best drumming news for years, if done properly.

    Not sure how I feel about this. I had Slinger/Leedy's 1968-72 and preferred Ludwigs then (the Leedy's were cheaper) and play Ludwigs now (though I have three Slingerland snares). Slingerland had no great reputation for quality control even back then, particularly their Set-O-Matic hardware (my tom mounts were made of "pot metal"...stripped out the first time that I really tightened them). Really wasn't happy about DW taking over Gretsch distribution (what's their relationship now?) and now they have the rights to Slingerland. Is DW out for total domination of USA-built drums?

    DW also owns Gibraltar Hardware, kind of exited to see Slingerlands with DW quality but also been thinking about this too, DW owning every drum maker on this side of the world.

    Glad to hear the brand was saved from drum company limbo. The guys from Chicago Drum Co. filled the gap with Slingerland inspired drums and I hope they continue to do well. However, it's nice to see a business like DW that has the ability to manufacturer, promote, and service the wider drum community take the reigns.

    +stevemaxwelldrums *I wonder what lug technology Drum Workshop will install on the revived Slingerland?* I ran across one-piece long lugs on the ø14"x12" parade snares in my high school days, but extreme-duty tube lugs would work better in terms of shell performance. The drumkit snares deserve better technology than the breakage-prone Zoomatic strainers of the 1950's - ideally, something consistent with the ultra-strong Dunnett R-class three-position release but with the twelve-holes-in-a-row attach for gut, mirrored with a twelve-holes-in-a-row gut guide on the butt clamp.

  • @robpelick7460

    @robpelick7460

    Never was a fan of the Zoomatic. But don't forget that Slingerland also had the TDR model that extended the snares all the way across the snare bed ala Radio King. It even came available with gut snares that could be individually tensioned. Excellent strainer.

    That is great news that the Slingerland Drum Company is coming back with all the great people at DW who know how to do things right! I have used Slingerland drums because of Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich.As one of the rare Big Band drummer leaders today, I use my Slingerland BR drums that I bought in 1970 to swing and drive my Big band with that great Slingerland sound.Here is a video I just posted of me playing those Slingerland drums with my Big Band kzread.info/dash/bejne/kYVoks2qZN3eacY.html So wonderful to hear this great American drum company is coming back!

    For the 10 years I played drums professionally (70s), I used Roger Samson/Swivomatic hardware. I purchased a few of the "new" Rogers components, and the materials, processing and workmanship is not even close to the originals.

    @@ctrader6 I purchased the new foot pedal a little over a year ago and it's pretty good but there are foot pedals being made today that are superior. If you are going to bring back a company from the past like Rogers or Slingerland a line is going to have to be walked with giving a nod to the past but making the company worthy of what's happening today.
