Tom (Steve Martin) and Kate Baker (Bonnie Hunt) have compromised their careers to raise 12 children. Tom coaches a high-school football team, while Kate has retired from journalism to raise the family. Things change when Tom is offered a college coaching job in a new city at the same time a publisher buys Kate's parenting memoir. After moving, Kate goes on a book tour, leaving Tom in charge of the children, who -- already unhappy about relocating -- plunge the household into chaos.

This was a must for me when I was a kid and even today, I’ve rewatched it countless times, also back in the 2000’s you didn’t really see many girls like Sarah (who hung out with the boys and did “boyish” activities, thank god times are changing), so being a girl like Sarah I really loved it, also we all had a massive crush on Tom welling

I LOVE this movie so much! You should also watch Yours, Mine, and Ours! I like Cheaper by the Dozen better but it’s still a really good movie. It’s another movie about a big family but it’s different because the mom and dad both have a lot of kids from different marriages and they marry each other to create the huge family. I’m so happy you’re watching this! I hope you enjoy it! It’s one of my most nostalgic movies ❤ I hope you want to watch the sequel after this! It has Eugene Levy in it so obviously it’s great!

I love this movie!! I also love cheaper by the dozen 2, the new cheaper by dozen movie on Disney+, and Yours, Mines, and Ours! All good movies about big families! On the side note, I moved a lot, and I always got sad and cried, I mean I was moving away from family and friends and being the new kid at school always sucked. But when I moved to the place I am now, I got a lot of opportunities and found things about me, I didn't even know I could do. So, I'm kinda glad I moved, and it was a big step for my mother, I mean we are hours away from family. But my mom is happy and that all that matters

Bonne réaction! Fun fact: The original Cheaper by the Dozen (1950) was based on the events of real family. The Steve Martin version keeps nothing from the original movie except for the name. If you like to view another good Steve Martin family movie, why not try out Parenthood (1989). This movie was directed by Ron Howard and features many known celebrities including Mary Steenburgen (Clara Clayton in Back to the Future Part 3), Rick Moranis (from Honey I Shrunk the Kids and the Flintstones), a young Joaquim Phoenix, and a young Keanu Reeves! I am SURE you will love this movie! If you like movies about large families you might enjoy is Yours, Mine and Ours. The original was made in 1968 with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda and the remake in 2005 with Dennis Quade and Renée Russo. The 2005 version is nothing like the original. The original is MUCH better than the 2005 version!

I enjoyed watching this growing up. When I saw this as a kid, I was on the kids side 100% mainly because in my eyes, the moving away was a bad idea and should never have happened at all. Now as an adult, I'm still on the kids' side but for a different reason. I understand wanting your dream job, but the problem was that dream job nearly took Tom away from his family and they were almost destroyed as a result. He just really wasn't there for his kids anymore which was why for most of the movie after the move, the kids were so upset with him and as result, they acted out. It doesn't excuse them getting in trouble in school and all, but it does explain their behavior. Also, Charlie was right call his father out on the real reason his dad took the dream job he always wanted and made them all move. I think Mark running away was the family's wake up call. I think Mark felt like he was an outsider in his family already and the move and everything that happened afterword made it harder for him, and losing his frog and his family not caring about how much it hurt him was the last straw for him and result, he ran away. In any family, especially one as big as this, you need to pay attention and be there for everyone no matter how hard it is because if you're not, stuff like this will happen as a result if not worse. I hope what I'm saying here makes sense I'm glad you enjoyed the movie!!!!!

Jared Padalecki (the guy playing the oldest son's school "bully") got/did the role as a sorta favor to/from Tom Welling; cause Tom wanted the "bully" to at least be taller than him, and Jared was one of the few actors he knew that was taller. (Tom Welling is 6' 3" and Jared is 6' 4"; though, they both might've still been in a growing stage at the time this was filmed?)

There actually is a sequel to this movie. It kinda reverses what all happened in the first movie and just uses the same stuff all over again but it has a heart and is more about learning to let go of your kids and realize that when it involves a family as big as this one, there are different aspects of their lives they’re all going through at the same time. I accept that you kept praising Tom but Charlie did have a very valid point when he said he was being selfish when he first got the job. He was only worried about Shake becoming more successful. But Shake did kinda criticize him for having a big family. Because of this TWO of his sons, one not even ten atttempted to leave the house both of which had more hardships then he was aware of.

As a kid, I liked this movie, but as an adult, it's not that good, but I'm glad you like it.

watching this as a kid, i thought it might be cool to have that many siblings to play with, but now watching it as an adult all i can think about are the living expenses, tuitions fees and the energy it would take to raise such a family. Adulting is a trap.
