I met Steve Lukather once. He is one of the most humble and funny people I have ever met. He is a great musician and a great human being. All of the members of Toto were so friendly.

I observed a sound test in Illinois in 2014 and, I have to say, Lukather came off as a bit of a jerk when they were trying to get the sound mix right. He was pretty blunt and cold to the sound guys. But ALL the great ones are jerks. It comes with the territory. And Luke is one of the greats, for sure.

@@SweetThing maybe he has alot of bad days. Watch the sound test video in Japan with Jun where he tells his guitar set up guy to get the f#$& out of here for no reason. I'n sure he is extra nice to fans but there is no reason to treat staff like that in any profession. People can have bad days and still not treat people like shit.

@@turtlespiritflutes7570 - if you don't like him (for whatever your reason is), then just don't go see them. Simple as that! Have you ever met Luke? Maybe the "guitar set-up guy), they are called roadies maybe he has been f#cking up numerous times; maybe he needed to go.. maybe he was fired. Listen, I have met these guys in grocery stores; they are from my hometown and they have always been the most polite, pleasant bunch of dudes. They always sign autographs, they never say No; I never bother to ask them when I run into them, as they do have a life too & their off-time, with their families, should be their time. But they are always very nice. Whatever reason you want to nitpick about their attitudes, hey, if you don't like them, (for whatever your reason is) then just don't go see them! Simple!! Another thing to think about; they have had the same guys working for them for 40 plus years; these guys working for them wouldn't be there All These Years if they didn't respect Toto & weren't treated fairly. They have the same crew as they had all those years ago. Read Steve L's book; it's a good read & will give you an idea what the guy is all about. And all the people that adore him. He tours with Ringo Starr & his band 3 months of the year & Ringo loves him.

Without a doubt, my favorite musician I have ever met. Luke is just like this when you meet him - humble, SUPER funny and very connected to his fans. This man is probably one of the best guitarists on the planet, easily and he is approachable and kind. Great guy, can't say enough about all the great music he has written as well. And the little parts he does, that Spanish/Flamenco solo he does on Mushanga is so beautiful. That cool groove he plays on Stand Back by Stevie Nicks just grooves too. Luke is the man.

Once Steve Lukather and Greg Matieson covered a night at the Baked Potato in North Hollywood because Larry Carlton had to cancel. Greg Bissonette was on drums and John Peña played bass. Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) walks in with Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick. Mike Laudau, Leland Sklar, Will Lee, Lenny Castro, Ray Davies (The Kinks), Carlos Vega, and Vinnie Colaiuta are all just hanging out. I met David Paich (great guy) that night and hung with him and Ray Davies. I already knew Luke because, as a guitar player, I was a fixture at "the Spud" in the 80s. Luke asked Rick to sit in, but he declined (he was drunk). Then Steve Stevens gets up on guitar and tore the house down. He is seriously short like Prince!! What a night that was!!

Very interesting interview. I know Val loved him and she is in the picture inside James Taylor's album. That is just the best picture! The first concert I ever saw was in Jacksonville to see The Beatles! I was with a best friend, Bill from Savannah. I was in the 9th or 10th grade, I think. Roy Oberson opened with his big hit, Running Scared. I met him but sure he doesn't remember when he and the rest of "Toto" when she was working on her album. I miss her so much.

Someone ask Steve Lukather if he can do an interview without "name dropping" in every other sentence of his. Because he doesn't need to do that. Steve Lukather, himself, is Very Cool! So what makes him feel he needs to name drop SO much?
