Once again, the one guy giving a thumbs down....are you fucking kidding me?!?! Defector for me is a completely dark but romantic album. It’s my Maestro doing what he does best, which is creating the mood, movement and beliefs in his dramatic life! Thank you Steve!

Hammer in the Sand and Leaving both beautifully wistful, effortlessly unlock a personal heartache from that era.

Wow -- a group of Hackett, Keith Emerson, Jack Bruce and Simon Phillips and 3 days' worth of tapes somewhere. I look forward to learning more in Steve's forthcoming book.

I had the distinct pleasure of attending the live show in Toronto at the old Okeefe Centre in the 80's. Loved the journey. Always wanting more. The Hammer always brings me to tears. Such an underestimated pleasure. Harmonics are stunning.

Hi Steve. Best wishes to you and Jo. This is still one of my favorite records/cd. Yes, this is when people would go to the local record store and buy something, listen and then try to see the artist on tour. I saw you during this tour when you played a small pub in Baltimore, MD. You were quite the gentleman to briefly chat with this fan in the lobby before the show. Good memories to go along with the world class music. Cheers.

Fantastic record. One that I only discovered over the last year or two. A worthy follow up to “Spectral” and just as good! The Steppes, Hammer In The Sand, The Toast - amazing songs. So uplifting. Congrats on a milestone Steve. Got to see you celebrate this album in in March in NYC before the world changed forever.

One of my favorite of your records... really spoke to me, the world on edge with the cold war; the bleakness of advertising, out of control, plus the soundscape and production - your amazing guitar sound of course, but the keyboards and drum sounds. I covered the Stepps as soon as I heard it. Did you ever hear John MClaughlin's "The Unknown Dissident"? I different kind of piece, but it carries with it some of that same imagery, remnants of the cold war... Rock on Professor Hackett, we'll see you on tour before you know it!

One of his best solo albums. I love how Steve talks about contributions from other members. It would be great to see Steve do more band-driven music, such as this, instead of the more current, dozens of guests collaborations. Still, everything's good!

Thanks for the music, Steve...lots of fantastic guitarist out there but the expressiveness of your playing is something quite special...different. A feast for the imagination. The only other guitarist that comes close to doing what you do is Justin Hayward. A certain kind of beauty in the playing. It isn't Fripp, it isn't May, it isn't Van Halen or Howe or even Beck. Very unique...like a movie you can watch over and over again.

I prefer Defector over Spectral Mornings. Steve refined his ideas here and it's a perfect companion to SM. Both could have made a perfect double album.
