Steve Bannon extended interview on Europe's far-right and Cambridge Analytica

One man who knows how Donald Trump rolls is Steve Bannon. The former chairman of the hard, right-wing Breitbart News website was appointed by Trump as his chief strategist after helping run the presidential campaign. But while the White House may have broken ties with Steve Bannon he's still carrying on with the work that brought him to the President in the first place - flying the flag for right wing populism in the US and across the globe. Our Europe Editor Matt Frei went to meet him.

    After watching this I would argue that the reporters intellect is higher than Bannon’s. By his very own definition, Trump is a globalist hogging all the wealth in the world. Is his version of the world going to be any better than the one today? I feel like history has shown results of these experiments all around the world in many different countries...

    Since when did Populism become such a shock, horror, derogatory term? Look at the definition- populism noun support for the concerns of ordinary people. Ohh wow shocking!! Not supporting the ordinary man on the street!

  • @thechadeuropeanfederalist893

    @thechadeuropeanfederalist893

    6 жыл бұрын

    That's not what populism means. It means to tell the ordinary people lies and blame all the problems on the opposition party referred to as "the establishment" for the sake of getting power while not really doing anything to actually improve the lives of the ordinary people.Instead of educating the people about the real world, populists tell them simplified conspiracy theories to get them enraged against the establishment and offer simple solutions that in practice never work. The italian populist parties for instance want to lower taxes while at the same time increasing social spending, while the Italian state is in debt. That the European Union is actually heavily opposed to immigration, but can't really do much to prevent people from crossing the ocean without violating human rights, populist won't tell you. Instead they will claim the European Union actively "imports" refugees and is ruled by a globalist cabal that wants to replace europeans by africans. That the European Union is ruled by the European council which consists of the elected heads of the member states, the populists won't tell you. And Bannon in particular has no interest in the well being of the ordinary European people. He wants to break up the EU, because that would weaken europe as an economic competitor of the U.S.. Individual countries are easier to dominate economically and politically via divide and conquer than an economic and political union. Take Trump's import tariffs for instance. The EU acting as a block is better able to fight back than if each country would be on their own. Or take american silicon valley corporations that want to monopolize the internet. The EU can break up monopolies like google and facebook, can impose sanctions on corporations for violating privacy rights of EU citizens. Thus why american corporations want to get rid of the EU. American corporations aren't the only ones who have an interest to break up the EU. Russia wants to break it up too. And so you have many foreign interests that support anti-EU populist parties in Europe. Le Pen's Front National is getting money from Russian banks.

    The thing about right wing populism though is that it has the facade of looking out for the common person, but it's really just a lie to get them into power so they can do what they actually want to do - hand over everything they can to the rich. The Trump administration is the perfect illustration of this. He spent his entire campaign railing against the excesses of Wall Street and how they have infiltrated our political system only to turn around and fill his cabinet with people from those same institutions and than pass unprecedented tax cuts for the already excessively wealthy

    It's really hard to have your opinions critiqued isn't it?

  • @massivereader

    @massivereader

    6 жыл бұрын

    Well, I can't say I agree with much of what Bannon stands for, or his opinions. What I'm critiquing is the interviewer, as in: the person conducting the interview. Typically, an interviewer asks a question and allows the interviewee to respond. The interviewer then asks supplementary questions to clarify that response, or to elicit the interviewee's opinion on a different or even somewhat related topic. The purpose of the interview is to make clear to the viewer the opinions and thoughts of the person being interviewed, not to make clear to all the opinions of the person conducting the interview. This can not be accomplished by correcting or talking over or debating the person being interviewed. To accomplish those purposes we have these other things called 'debates'. Interviews are given to people of great prominence, and whose actions or ideas are affecting the world. Reporters are there to make plain what the person they are interviewing thinks or has experienced. People don't watch interviews to find out what the opinions of the reporter are. A skillful interviewer who disagrees with the person being interviewed can accomplish much by carefully crafting question that expose the very opinions they disagree with, or trip up the person being interviewed exposing logical or factual errors. What I saw here was nothing resembling an interview, the reporter was speaking more than the subject.

    The majority is speaking up after waking up. This isn't about the people in power or the influence of the media (which is left wing and biased). This is the common people who want a change and are going against what has been forced on them, the EU, Islam, and Globalism. The people who are rejecting globalism in favour of patriotism and their national identity, like Italy, Poland, Hungary, and Japan are part of the majority of people in the world that reject globalism. In America, they proved they are in the majority when Trump was elected. In Britain, they proved they were the majority when they voted Brexit. Hollywood has lost billions by putting politics the majority does not want into their movies, Ghostbusters, Solo etc. The People need to be listened to. And the media and Hollywood keep failing because they don't LISTEN to what the majority and common people are feeling. It's easier for the enemy of the people to blame their opponents than accept that they are losing and the people see through them.

    Why do these British interviewers keep interrupting their subjects? I don't get it. This guy has to impose his opinions on Bannon to make Bannon wrong instead of listening and trying to draw out Bannon's ideas. This is just like the Catthy Newmann interview with Jordan Peterson and the radio interview with Peterson by some British intellectual. They keep disrupting the talk to impose their opinions. If I was interested in their opinion, I would listen to an interview with them by somebody else. It's so offensive.

    it bothered me when the interviewer tried to claim that the right was capitalizing on anger and presented it in a way that made it sound like only the right was doing it. That shows a true lack of understanding (or lying by omission) of the situation in in the US. The left currently are the angry ones: Celebs cussing, MSM with constant race baiting and lying, right leaning pundits and politicians being accosted in restaurants by angry mobs, a nut job leftist trying to murder a group of republicans who were playing baseball, banning people from universities, attacking almost any right-leaning march or protest with physical violence... The list just goes on and on... and the interviewer had the gall to try to claim that it's the right who are benefitting solely from capitalizing on anger.

  • @tommyjackson5900

    @tommyjackson5900

    I think what he was getting at was the right was was taking advantage of angry voters. People aren't happy with the EU because of the economic decline, and there is alot of fear mongering of immigrants from the right. Immigrants are easy targets during poorer times. The thing is, I think people have every right to be angry at the EU and governments in general that have been pushing neo-liberal policies. but reverting to closed borders isnt any better. Nationalism is toxic and dangerous when its taken seriously. Immigrants having been doing alot of jobs that locals dont want to do. Countries rely on them. Im not saying that people shouldnt be angry at the EU. I just wish they wouldnt rush to trust the alt right. Steve Bannon worked at Goldman Sachs, is that someone you can trust more than the EU? The world needs for real socialists, not neo liberalist. Im talking about the Jeremy Corbyns and pre corrupted Bernie Sanders of the world..

    Winston Churchill was a white nationalist. After the war he tried to stop immigration into England, which had become a problem even back then, but no one would listen. Excerpt from Wikipedia: He tried in vain to manoeuvre the cabinet into restricting West Indian immigration. "Keep England White" was a good slogan, he told the cabinet in January 1955.[10] Ian Gilmour records Churchill saying to him, in 1955, about immigration: "I think it is the most important subject facing this country, but I cannot get any of my ministers to take any notice".[11]

Challenge it, force them to explain the ideology behind their thoughts and opinions and don’t let them move on before they’ve done it. Cuomo is the best you have at this. Don’t fear it, it’s journalism, fact finding and pinning down. Truth comes out under this kind of pressure.

  • @evameszaros9977

    I understand your view of challenging the interviewee's view, but there is a respectful way of doing that. I would not call this fact finding at all, in order to find the facts, you would need to hear someone out. This was a perfect example of not letting him answer the questions he asked, because Bannon's answers did not fit in the propaganda the interviewer likes to force on the viewers... I wouldn't call this journalism either, a journalist does not take sides, they should be fully objective.

Reagan and H Bush signed in more financial regulation . 1992 Bill HR -5334 Affordable , Community Housing Act . Bill Clinton repeals Glass / Steagal and Bush 2 allowed the collapse to happen .
