I would have to disagree with all the comments saying here is tension between these two. They are good friends and are being sarcastic and messing with each other. That's what good friends do.

It is this ridiculous generational, and cultural flaw. There are so many people, as made evident by the joining of minds on the internet, that just do not understand the diversity of musical spirituality. These people look for subtle nuances in every relationship.

I got this on VHS back in 2001, I was 16 and it changed my playing forever. Almost any technique you can do on a bass these two legends incorporate across a bunch of different styles here. Steve helped inspire me to buy a 6 string (along with John Myung) and attempting his parts was like learning Chinese on bass with his harp harmonics and chordal phrasing. Then there was Vic and his thumb.... "Victor's Jam" blew me into a thousand funky pieces, I'm pretty sure he plays half the notes with his mustache. He already was my number one and this just added to it. Their banter in between is incredible, it made learning this madness fun. 36:46 The part where Steve talks about that chromatic run Stanley Clarke did and how he practiced it, then Victor says "Stanley was teaching you, this is cosmic". That fucking changed me. I now understood how you can learn from the universe in pretty much every moment if you are open to it. Even though I never took a "lesson" in my life every moment I sat and jammed along with all my heroes they were teaching me. Combine an open inquisitive mind with work ethic and anything can be learned.

I'm glad to read this... same here, many of these techniques are great and have been using them for years to nourish my playing style.

I’m quite convinced that it is impossible to replicate this concert...these 2 are the most particular, personal and unique Bass Players in the world...they are complementary, opposites but have found a common point and look like twins from different mothers. I believe that the word “Music” means this: to find each other... And with Gregg Bissonette on the drum kit is better

Both these guys are just amazing, with their very own unique style of playing. The amazing thing with mature musicians is that's it's not a contest, it's about the music. In our maturity we are not afraid to share our gifts, we get excited to give the tricks away and watch as someone else builds upon it then gives it back to you. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC!!
