Steroid Knee Injection - Clinical Skills - Dr Gill

steroid knee injection
Performing the steroid knee injection, on the one hand, seems particularly simple. However, it is also potentially a dangerous procedure, as steroids have considerable side effects. So perhaps one of the most important parts of the steroid injection procedure is the patient consent, and clarification of these risks, and ensuring the patient is happy to proceed.
In this video, we perform a demonstration of a knee injection

    I'm 73 and had my first knee injection about six weeks ago. I wish I'd seen your video first. My knee felt great for a couple of days (the anesthetic), then started to hurt again. I was devastated because I thought the injection had failed. A couple of days later, the pain disappeared and fortunately has not come back yet. It hurt for a couple of seconds when the doc did the injection, but that was it. Well worth it! Only complication was an extremely elevated glucose level.

    Omg you can’t believe how nervous I was you were actually going to inject him. As someone with a bit of a needle phobia, I couldn’t help but cover my eyes barely peeking through my fingers . But thankfully you put the cap back on and all my anxiety washed away. 😅

    GPs are so underappreciated. In Brazil everyone wants to become a specialist and make money. But the GP is the one who's gonna solve 90% of everyone's problems. A cardiologist might achieve vanguard level knowledge but a GP always has something to learn which will improve his practice. It's just about the sheer quantity of knowledge, not necessarily its complexity, though complex thought is required to connect the dots. thankfully for me I dropped out and now just do music xD

    If you could do one for a injection in the stomach. A doctor prescribed a medication that was to be applied in that way but, the way the nurses try to do it was so brute and violent that i didn't allowed it and I'm still terrified of that type of injection.

  • @DrJamesGill

    @DrJamesGill

    2 ай бұрын

    It’s a balance, they DO impact on the cartilage, but if you can’t walk NOW due to the pain, that is often a bigger issue

  • @DrJamesGill

    Reason I say bigger issue, if we are needing knee injections then joint damage and possible knee replacement in the long term is something which is already a possibility

    I had cortisone (steroids) injections in my shoulders a few times and in my SI joint twice. I was in such pain where I was almost begging for the jab. People whining about this don’t know what that kind of inflammatory pain is like. It’s hell!

    For context, I watch purely out of interest, I'm not trained at all. I find it odd that understanding of the potential side effects is confirmed with the patient, but not that they understand the reason of why they are having the treatment.

    Patient was asked if he knew why he was having the injection. He said yes. Presumably in this scenario the patient had already seen a doctor who advised the injection so the patient knew what he was there for.

    Honestly i’m not that happy with the outcome, the problem is I’m the person setting the camera up as well. However I do have a secondary video where we’ll be looking at the anatomical approach, and different methods as well Which particular approaches do you favour?
