The city where I used to live had one of the Sterlings....it was mounted perhaps 8' above ground level....one night it went off....and woke me up out of a dead sleep....and I was 3+ miles from where it was....

No I passed the actual fire station which is diagonally across the road from the borough hall. If you can see where the one fire truck left is where it is.

@@rainyrec OMG! a few nights ago 2 transformers blew up and on fire Blackout for over 2 hours...NO SIREN so much for your DUMB coments kid, Sirens are as stupid as you. As far risking peoples lives, I have fed over a hundred thousand peeps at MY COST, how bout U? DONE !

+Never2old4Nothing It's a Fire Siren. One that calls the crew over. It's in a hilly area so they need it because radio i don't believe would tavel as well.

Its not needed - we are ALL DIGITAL 30 YRS now...HUH PLZ!! it goes off several times monthly irritating as hell. anyway its a SMALL town cant be that many fires etc. too loud

@@rikart1 I can hear it, and if you dont have a generator, no power. Phones dead? Sirens are needed, these have been needed ever since we found out to make them. You need more reasons?

@@rikart1 Ok seems like you don't understand the point of sirens. Sirens are for when there IS NO POWER AT ALL OR POWER. No phone power, etc, etc. Your quiet time is not important as a EF5 tornado is ripping through your town and the sirens blare and you wanna file a noise notice because a siren is too LOUD?! If you think you don't need sirens, try living without them, if you're near me you'll hear my ACA Banshee 115. Sorry to say but, if you don't like sirens, you're putting others at risk.. Cell towers can be destroyed also. No service, no house. SIRENS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE LOUD SO YOU CAN HEAR THEM.
