    @@LifeofBliss Would B interesting 4 U 2 do something with a pair of say Eminence Omega or whatever around 7mm Xmax 1 way, in big ported enclosures, driven by a Behringer EP2500. Thank me later after you $ell all your BulL$hit that sounds worse =)) Class D & 'heavy woofers' R a joke. This is coming from somebody familiar with the stuff. Yes I've compared stuff like that directly = they R 'slow' = less slam & clarity, etc. They're 2 stiff & heavy & all the extra travel involved, & sealed boxes??? Really? WTF R U thinking throwing away more than half their potential that way? CRAZY! =))

    He's using class D (digital) amps. They all sound like $hit compared 2 regular ol' 'analog' amps like 'Class A/B' =) Even with a 'Class H' switching power supply. It's funny he spend all that $$$ on all those huge things & is complaining not getting the 'slam' he wanted, when a mere 2 X 18" PA drivers slam like crazy if U put them in big ported enclosures with just a couple hundred watts a side! This whole thing is an exercise in WA$TE!! Like 'bragging' that they WA$TE so much energy as heat, which U don't even get into the room because it's trapped in the cabinet & dissipates over many hours. & that's another thing = mount drivers so the magnets & stuff R on the OUTSIDE & things will last longer & throw better = nice cool air so less 'power compression' from hot coils =) There R so many things wrong it's just sad, but that's how $cams work in 'audiophelia' LOL

No no... don't buy or make some cheap grilles... that extra $20 whatever is just 2 much =)) Frax sake U don't even need them pointing forward. Turn them around & will sound actually BETTER because loading into the wall 2 help 'couple' with the air even more =D

    @@LifeofBliss What is your thinking about using Birch plywood versus the MDF? Also would double thickness 3/4" sheets overkill?

  • @LifeofBliss

    @LifeofBliss

    4 ай бұрын

    I think double thickness on the whole box is overkill and just adds excess weight. Bracing every 8-10 inches will provide enough strength to keep box resonance to a minimum. Using plywood would save weight, but costs much more. Plus the end grain will need a little work to prep before painting

    @@LifeofBliss I didn't call you any names man. I will tell you what though, when Im delivering in the hood I feel sorry for the kids of the sorry parents that have their sorry loud car stereos all turned up with their little babies in them. Those subs look like they stroke pretty hard. Have you done a HZ sweep to see what they are tuned too? Where they roll of at? I have a set of old Cerwin Vega LS15 and they have no problem picking up 25hz. I have those on top a set of Klipsch R-115sw and they defiantly pick up the 18hz they are rated for.

    @@nova467spanker oh I know you didn't, I was just saying I wouldn't do that to them lol. Thats unfortunate for those kids for sure... I've done sweeps, was flat within a few dB from 7 Hz at about 120 dB up to 100 Hz. I think thats in my previous video about these actually

    great video man, run a slow sweep from about 40 hz down to 20 hz showing frequency / sound pressure level in real time. That shows what subs can do. People who say "Oh you shouldn't do that" are worried their subs can't handle it or will reveal a problem.

    You're right about the rollers... its much better to spray. But a couple tips I have regarding the finish of Duratex with rollers... Use a 9" roller with a very thin foam profile, the little rollers are only good for small speakers and tight areas. Coat evenly without worrying about the streaks, wait 5-10 minutes (less in hot/dry environment), then roll in one direction only, overlapping about an inch as you go. Avoid extending past the edges with your roller and avoid pressing down near the edges. That will squeeze out the duratex from the foam roller unevenly and will create streaks when you go back over your work. If there are still streaks, wait a bit longer and then repeat the process, but roll in a direction 90 degrees to how you did your first "smoothing" rolls. The thin foam roller will hold less duratex and you wont waste as much when its time for cleanup. Great job, love seeing the build.
