Okay but responding to gun fire with a tactical nuke is purely asshole behavior and you not seeing that seems a little concerning. What OP did is the equivalent of you poking a kid in the back at school so in retaliation they turn around and hit you with their chair. Being blamed for the prank does not hold the same gravity as straining a relationship between a father and kids with issues that should have been handled in a more delicate fashion.

NO, OP isn't "tattling" on them. Tattling is saved for when people aren't actually doing anything wrong but you still report on them. Like if Derrick was a zealous vegan and forced his kids to be vegan as well, but one of them eat meat in secret. THAT would be Tattling. The Mother's comment of "I finally have a family" shows she's completely delusional. And so is Derrick for that matter. The mother just threw OP, her _Literal_ family member, away just so she could try and pretend everything is fine. Derrick likely still thinks that OP is at fault for the prank as well, despite the fact he never clamped down on his kids' behavior towards OP.

@@Iris_too I wont delve into specifics but she was abusive (physically and mentally), manipulative and controlling. 0 freedom, her way or the highway, treated me as a pet. She refused to be of any positive influence or aid in my life when I came to her with issues and would often punish when I did so I stopped going to her for help. Eventually we got sick or eachother when when i learnt to stand my ground she gave me an ultimatum; live in her home and do what I'm told, eat food that literally caused medical issues for years and never speak a word or complaint to her or I could go elsewhere, doesnt matter where (I was still legally a child). So I moved in with my father who was already struggling financially and emotionally living in a 1 bedroom flat where my brother had the bedroom and my father and I slept in the living room with mold and damp that cause other health issues in a key point in my education, the fact I chose that as the healthier alternative and stand by that to this day shows how living with her was. She tried to contact my father a couple years ago sending a letter telling him he had "poisoned" me and my siblings against her which is why we one by one cut contact, he cried and I only resented her more for that(he tried to hide the note because he didnt want us to hate her but I took it and read it anyway). She then a year later posted a tiny note to me personally with her saying "sorry I let you down -love mum" with her phone number. I never called. The only reason I ever considered contacting her again was because she still had some of my property that holds sentimental value to me. "I wonder why he never calls" 😂😂😂

I was thinking even before the mom kicked OP out that maybe it would be best if OP went to live with his grandparents since he's not being treated as a member of the family in his mom's house. I wish it had been him that had made the decision instead of the mom, but I guess going no contact sticks it to her just as well. Maybe one day she'll realize that she destroyed the most important relationship in her life so she could have this fake nuclear family. And I do think it was wrong to forbid the step siblings from going to their mom's party if they don't get to see her that often. That makes the punishment way worse than it needs to be, but the mom is probably in denial about the fact that they have a mom that isn't her.

If my own mother did to me what OP's did to him, she would be dead to me. If to her sucking up to her husband and his kids is more important than having a relationship with her son, then she better hope they'll be around to take care of her once she gets old and useless. Because I doubt OP will want to take care of someone that was so intent of throwing him to the wolves for her own satisfaction.

Holy hell, what is wrong with the reddit comments. The op is NTA for telling. A 17 years old potentially dating someone who almost graduating from college. Unless that person is a prodigy, the guy is around 20 to 22 years old and who knowns when they started dating and failing a subject can be here and there depending on what she wants to do, though I would be worry if she is failing. And a 16 year old skipping school not once or twice but often to hangout with his stoner friends is very bad, doesn't matter if they are good or bad. If your skipping school often there has to be something up with you either with good intentions or bad intentions. And now with the mother, she is a horrible mother. I don't need to add more.

Teenagers are so dumb, smh. That prank was 100/100 points in the stupid-o meter. Mother is just looking to blame him to justify what she and his husband are doing. She’s choosing the new family, he probably dislikes the kid now and prefers to keep peace ny ignoring OP existence. The mother is making a very stupid mistake as those kids will not see her as a mother. Poor OP, I hope he finds the unconditional loves everyone needs in his grandparents.

It's sad that OP's mother is so desperate to get approval from those strangers and ended up hurting her relationship with her own blood. She discarded OP like she forgot that those strangers never acknowledge her as their father's new wife. A light beckoned from their mother with rich BF would make all her effort going down to the ditch. Unlikely that their mother would do that but they would wag their tails at the possibility because it's all start because they want to go to their mother's party. I hope OP would make a grand update of how karma would fck over her. OP deserves that.

She also reminds me of the type that will literally sacrifice everybody just for her own needs, and it sounds like this step jerk would rather have OP out of the house and probably when they were discussing the “grounding” it was probably him saying yeah we’re gonna punish my kids, but you’re a kid hast to go.

Tbh all 3 kids were out of order and it's 100% shitty that OPs mum selected her own child out to send away, no matter what happens all mums should have their kids backs while they are still minors, your mum is a poor excuse for a parent, least OP has his grandparents (I was raised by my grandparents from the age of 6 months, my dad sadly has bipolar and was only 18 when I was born so his parents raised me, no idea where my mum is and tbh don't really care either). OP treasure your grandparents as they will be gone before you know it (I've buried both my Nan and my Gramps) love and cherish them 💖💖💖

All I gotta say that the fact that the kids are more mature than the adults in the situation boggles my mind. How you gonna find something that all teens with step sibling have done and make it seem like he killed someone? Almost every teen has tattled to avoid more punishment. Not to mention Derek punishing his kids by restricting access to their mother is abhorent. Absolutely barbaric and he should be ashamed of himself.

Find happiness with your grandparents make friends and form a new chosen family there, I'm sorry OP that your mother is such a POS, but that isn't your fault, down the road she will reach out seeking forgiveness, you can forgive her if you want ,holding on to hate isn't good for you, but never forget never go beyond LC with your betraying mother she doesn't love you and she will betray you again. Maybe it was wrong to “tattle”, but it was also wrong for the parents to react the way the did. Yes, the prank was incredibly inconsiderate, but the father should have had some kind of empathy for their strained relationship with the mother. After all, op mom should talk to op about what the best course of action would be to let them know he’s concerned about the step siblings. She should not have iced him out and treated him like a villain because he became reactive to the situation. These parents are the reason itself the kids make these decisions, they are truly not caring for them like sentient beings that deserve empathy and respect.

I think in someway, it was an excuse just for OP to be taken out anyway. If they were literally going to do that to OP, no matter what, I think that I hope he’s better off with the grandparents and I have that bad feeling that say if OP connects with the parents when they’re 21 they’re just gonna hang up on him and block the number and probably put a no contact on Apple Pay. I know it sounds extreme but it does sound like the mother is only caring about the new husband and I know the husband probably doesn’t care about OP anyway I’m just surprised that they didn’t get rid of all of OP stuff or at least do extreme things even though OP said what they said. I just have the feeling is most people are saying that the mother is going to come crawling back right after that husband leaves because she’s gonna say some thing in the husbands gonna be like I’m done with it I’m done with you

First off what is wrong with literally both of the mother's in the story both just ditched their bio kids for a new man/family. Second she's the same type of mom that will then ask him to come back for events and such as to not ruin her perfect family image to make sure no one knows that she has literally kicked her own son out to appease her new family that doesn't even seem all that great.
