Stepping up my Smart Home with Meross Switches! (VERY RELIABLE)
Ғылым және технология
(Reupload) Taking control of all of my lights, one socket at a time with Meross Smart home switches. I also control a few smart plugs and even monitor my server room temperature! I am amazed by how easy this all is (now)..And I think I truly am in love with Meross gear!

I blame Adobe Media Encoder for the previous screwed up video

Nah, he accidentally showed a bit too much of the 3-way and didn't want Susan Wojcicki to get upset.
I'd go with Home Assistant over IFTTT since you have a 24/7 server. Making automations are very easy using that. And can create dashboards to monitor eeeverything including power with solar!

Literally everyone on KZread setting up smart home anything specifically says to NOT use IFTTT. Not sure how you got to that conclusion. But yes also HA is the right choice.

Home Assistant! you can save so much money by just making sure things that are not use are indeed off.. $200 dollars investment in smart switches/relays can save you 30-40 bucks a month.. Specially if you have a pool like me where I need to run a pump daily to keep everything under control.
As a 6 year Home Assistant user, I would be happy to help you're smart home journey the right (and reliable) way!
Thank you for for telling *Alexa* to turn off all my lights on me Jason! :D

Sorry but I gotta 🤣🤣🤣
Those grounds d/c during testing was driving me nuts. Also quick tip, when working on LIVE electricity, only use ONE hand. If you use two hands, you will complete a circuit over your heart which, even with 120v, you can stop your heart.

Or hire someone who doesn't touch terminals to see if they're live. This isn't a power test, it's a negative IQ test.
Since a number of people mentioned Home Assistant, as an FYI, non-Home Kit Meross (or Refoss) devices need an add-on integration (Meross-LAN). Alternatively, if you purchase the Home Kit versions, those integrate easier into Home Assistant. As for Lutron Caseta, they are more expensive but offer more to flexibility. I've used several of the Caseta remotes to add a convenient switch where none existed without having to run wire.
You need home assistant and some wago connectors. I hope the meross stays reliable but I hate cloud connected and prefer running tasmota on my wifi smart switches.
id also go with wago connectors over the wire nuts for all your connections. so much better and gives you a ton of room in those boxes. plus id use high temp silicon wire for your jumpers from the romex, these 2 things makes life so much easier when installing smart switches.
Thank you. This video is very helpful. Keep 'em coming!
I have switch my house completely to touch panel switches. It makes 3 way super simple you can link one touch button to any other switch in the house. I didn't need to connect anything to the slave switch except power.
Congrats on going down the rabbit hole. As a long time smart home user and having tested many types and companies, nice choice. Keep up the great work. I’m sure you got it figured out but if you ever need, just message. 😎
I have been hesitant to start smart integration but plan too in the near future. Love all the reels of filament!!
Consider motion sensor switches for the closet and bathroom timed to turn off for 10-20min (if no motion)! It’s great to just walk into my bathroom or closet and the lights just automatically turn on
Z-Wave is good. Lutron Caseta and RA2 Select are better. They are DIY and they work without WiFi on an independent RF frequency purchased from the FCC. The smart bridge is the only device on the network and both the range and response time are excellent. Works with Alexa and a Google Home. I have installed in my house and a few of my friends houses with ZERO issues.

I agree 24 years as a electrician.
I can recomend shelly 1 or shelly 2.5 smart relays that you put behind your current switches. Runs on Wifi, can be run localy or via their own cloud and Homeassistant finds them automaticly. Plus they are dirt cheap.
I would recommend Lutron Caseta light switches those are the gold standard of smart home devices. They use the 900mhz RF freq that will give you great range throughout your house.

Helium for life. Other ISM get lost! 🤣
after you've done it a few thousand times like I have, there is PLENTY of room left in those boxes, lol ... I've seen way more stuffed then that! Gotta love old houses and not caring about electrical code..
Ok, Jason, You turned off all my lights. When you said, Alexa! Turn off all the lights, she did, in my house. :-D
Make an IoT VLAN on your UniFi network with proper firewall rules and run Home Assistant from a VM on your server.
Haha..Love watching you try stuff. But, not necessarily the parts where you zap yourself. Be safe!

Oh and stop saying Alexa...haha
Good job man! Is the 3-way dummy switch that you still needed right? I have a Lutron Caseta 3-way switch in my Philly Condo and that didn't need it. I think I want to setup my South FL Townhouse with Homekit in the future for better automations.
Lutron would of been higher end, much nicer, same price and you missed an opportunity to have dimming available. And for three ways with lutron you only install one wired switch the second is just a tiny remote control that gets mounted in a switchplate and looks like a switch. its wireless so you can leave the wires capped in your wall and free up space
Try the Meross outdoor plug -- works great, very affordable and reliable. Runs my backyard lights the wife wanted and Xmas out front 2 years running.
the old fashion test LMFAO!!!
Yes, I agree with others. Make Home Assistant your central brain for automation. I run my in a docker container. You can also run it on a raspberry pi.
Now you need to use Home Assistant to bring everything together.
Hey!!! No Stroke feeling!!
If you turn off your light with Alexa on a 3 way system ,how does switching the dumb switch work to turn the light off or on?
Node red, home assistant, and then you will go down the rabbit hole of home automation
Home Assistant, local control > Cloud Lutron Caseta is king.
I love Meross.
American/Canadian wiring and switches are so messy and dodgy looking. In Australia most of the time everything is wired directly to the switch even our power outlets have individual off and on switches, It blows my mind how you guys don't. But love your videos!
I have Google Home and love my control over the lights. My home is mostly a Philips Hue Home. Now when You said Alexa turn all the lights off I could see all your viewers with Alexa turning all the lights off. I get the same problem when someone on the radio or in a video gives google a command with the google wake word my home would respond. It can be frustrating. What another channel I watch calls Alexa is Miss A so she does not trigger other people's homes.
does meross support Thread?
I hate 3-way switches, brings back flashbacks from the 70's dealing with the wiring in my mother-in-laws house. She had me replace a dining room light, but no one told me it was a 3-way circuit. Short story I got the crap shocked out of me and I fell off a ladder. The worst part was my mother-in-law and my wife laughing.
What you doing with them Face plates
With the 3 way. Is the switch with the hot/load the WiFi switch or the kill switch?

Found it in vid. You said furthest shoukd be dead switch. Thanks.
You should have showed which wire need to go to LIVE & LOAD and how to recognize them
Thank you for switching off all my lights lol
I pee'd my pants. Thanks, now I have to change.
You got it a 3 way on one side you have power wire on the other side you have a switch leg witch is the wire that goes to the light.
Don't use wire nuts!!! Use Wago's they are smaller and cleaner
So now you can start adding other sensors and to automatic things like, on motion in the stairwell turn on the light for 5min, etc etc. IFTTT is great for turning on/off outside lights with sunset/sunrise. You can even tie in BlueIris to trigger lights based on if it sees a person/dog/cat/etc. Love that AI plugin integration into BlueIris.
u often have to warm up to shove big once into a tight space. atleast thats what she said "DRUMS"
Start using Alexa shopping lists. It's great when you go to the store.
I would of gone with Lutron caseta
you need wago's instead of the wire nuts
First, please mute the wake words. Second, for future switches, when I changed all mine I found the price difference between a dimmer and non dimmer to only be $1 to $2 difference so I have all dimmers.
Lutron Caseta man
So the was 3 three ways
Jason, can you put a clause in your will to upload the video of you dying as a PSA not to do dumb stuff with electricity?
Hahaha so nice of you to automate your ex wife’s house . Your a good person
Jason, please don't test power like that 😬
*Jason* Why why are you using those 'pig tail' bulbs.... 6:47... They are dangerous. I have some completely short out and blow the bulb right off the socket while they were on. Get yourself some LED bulbs but not the Walmart brand. Those are crap.
Home Assistant
Cool. Now let me introduce you to home automation via Home Assistant... bwhahahahahaha.
Great project. However, I will NEVER use ALEXA or anything like that.
any sort of dimmer and smart switch should be done dead anyways
Funny ... but please wear some gloves sometimes, would be sad to see you loose a hand or two ...
Please garble or change the name of alexa in your videos! Your setting off mine and making it do unwanted things!
First
I would have given you a thumbs up but you left saying "Alexa" in the video which triggered my devices, worse yet it was in relation to lights, so you get a thumbs down. Great video though.
