Stepping up my Smart Home with Meross Switches! (VERY RELIABLE)

Ғылым және технология

(Reupload) Taking control of all of my lights, one socket at a time with Meross Smart home switches. I also control a few smart plugs and even monitor my server room temperature! I am amazed by how easy this all is (now)..And I think I truly am in love with Meross gear!

I'd go with Home Assistant over IFTTT since you have a 24/7 server. Making automations are very easy using that. And can create dashboards to monitor eeeverything including power with solar!

Home Assistant! you can save so much money by just making sure things that are not use are indeed off.. $200 dollars investment in smart switches/relays can save you 30-40 bucks a month.. Specially if you have a pool like me where I need to run a pump daily to keep everything under control.

Those grounds d/c during testing was driving me nuts. Also quick tip, when working on LIVE electricity, only use ONE hand. If you use two hands, you will complete a circuit over your heart which, even with 120v, you can stop your heart.

Or hire someone who doesn't touch terminals to see if they're live. This isn't a power test, it's a negative IQ test.

Since a number of people mentioned Home Assistant, as an FYI, non-Home Kit Meross (or Refoss) devices need an add-on integration (Meross-LAN). Alternatively, if you purchase the Home Kit versions, those integrate easier into Home Assistant. As for Lutron Caseta, they are more expensive but offer more to flexibility. I've used several of the Caseta remotes to add a convenient switch where none existed without having to run wire.

You need home assistant and some wago connectors. I hope the meross stays reliable but I hate cloud connected and prefer running tasmota on my wifi smart switches.

  • @jamesredfield74
    @jamesredfield742 жыл бұрын

id also go with wago connectors over the wire nuts for all your connections. so much better and gives you a ton of room in those boxes. plus id use high temp silicon wire for your jumpers from the romex, these 2 things makes life so much easier when installing smart switches.

I have switch my house completely to touch panel switches. It makes 3 way super simple you can link one touch button to any other switch in the house. I didn't need to connect anything to the slave switch except power.

Consider motion sensor switches for the closet and bathroom timed to turn off for 10-20min (if no motion)! It’s great to just walk into my bathroom or closet and the lights just automatically turn on

Z-Wave is good. Lutron Caseta and RA2 Select are better. They are DIY and they work without WiFi on an independent RF frequency purchased from the FCC. The smart bridge is the only device on the network and both the range and response time are excellent. Works with Alexa and a Google Home. I have installed in my house and a few of my friends houses with ZERO issues.

I can recomend shelly 1 or shelly 2.5 smart relays that you put behind your current switches. Runs on Wifi, can be run localy or via their own cloud and Homeassistant finds them automaticly. Plus they are dirt cheap.

I would recommend Lutron Caseta light switches those are the gold standard of smart home devices. They use the 900mhz RF freq that will give you great range throughout your house.

Good job man! Is the 3-way dummy switch that you still needed right? I have a Lutron Caseta 3-way switch in my Philly Condo and that didn't need it. I think I want to setup my South FL Townhouse with Homekit in the future for better automations.

Lutron would of been higher end, much nicer, same price and you missed an opportunity to have dimming available. And for three ways with lutron you only install one wired switch the second is just a tiny remote control that gets mounted in a switchplate and looks like a switch. its wireless so you can leave the wires capped in your wall and free up space

I have Google Home and love my control over the lights. My home is mostly a Philips Hue Home. Now when You said Alexa turn all the lights off I could see all your viewers with Alexa turning all the lights off. I get the same problem when someone on the radio or in a video gives google a command with the google wake word my home would respond. It can be frustrating. What another channel I watch calls Alexa is Miss A so she does not trigger other people's homes.

I hate 3-way switches, brings back flashbacks from the 70's dealing with the wiring in my mother-in-laws house. She had me replace a dining room light, but no one told me it was a 3-way circuit. Short story I got the crap shocked out of me and I fell off a ladder. The worst part was my mother-in-law and my wife laughing.

So now you can start adding other sensors and to automatic things like, on motion in the stairwell turn on the light for 5min, etc etc. IFTTT is great for turning on/off outside lights with sunset/sunrise. You can even tie in BlueIris to trigger lights based on if it sees a person/dog/cat/etc. Love that AI plugin integration into BlueIris.
