"The kind of stuff I write doesn't go out of fashion because it's never been in fashion." Now that's a quote!

As an interview format, "Face To Face" (which originated on the BBC in 1959) has never been bettered, IMO. The focus is solely on the person being interviewed as s/he faces a series of 'to the point' questions posed by an unseen interogator. This 1990s reincarnation is less relentless or remorseless than the original, but it is still very revealing. You get not only the answers but also the emotional reactions of the interviewee seen in close up. Put on the spot, Stephen Sondheim is a fascinating subject and a superb talker not only about his works but his craft. I hadn't seen this since it was first shown on Channel 4 in the UK nearly 30 years ago now, and it is wonderful to watch it again.

UGH… 🤦‍♂️ Such a brilliant man, but I just wish there could be one brilliant artist out there who does *NOT* have to just sh*t on Republicans.

Yes - that artists are people who make a living by living in a fantasy world

@@samcotten2416 that artists have a level of empathy for other people that allows them to tell stories that speak to the human experience- whereas the republican party doesn’t show that same empathy

@ xpa-beads That’s an absolute lie - there is nothing empathetic or compassion about the Democratic Party, and Republicans are consistently more empathetic and compassionate than anyone on the left. People on the left are crazy for always automatically thinking that a bigger, more powerful government that exerts more control over citizens’ private lives equals “compassion”. Do you wanna know how compassionate I am? I’m so compassionate, I think people should be able to keep ALL of their own hard earned money and that the government does not have the right to take it away from them. I’m so compassionate, I think people have the right to live in safe places that are not overrun by crime and illegal immigrants taking away their jobs and their resources. I’m so compassionate, I think people should be able to pay less than three dollars a gallon for gas. I’m so compassionate that I believe an unborn child deserves to live and should not be murdered just because of the mother’s convenience . People on the left are not compassionate at all - they are just brainwashed, deluded, and unbelievably narcissistic and arrogant.
