We have the lowest quality group of players in living memory. As deluded as the English media are about England and Southgate, I sometimes think the Irish media is worse for expecting Ireland to outperform its level. We're a third or fourth tier international team. It's time to face up to that reality. We're not producing elite players and we can't rely on the British academies to do it for us anymore.

Agree 👍, the only other thing I can add to your comment is that it suits the fai financially as they don't have to pay for a top or even half decent manager, it would cost a million plus to land one, twice what Kenny is on and remember this same fai are still paying robbie Keane two years after he left his post, how ludicrous is that?? We get what we deserve 😳

Yeah they'll qualify quite easily and then go to the tournament thinking they can win it but as soon as they come up against a team ranked above them they'll bottle it because Southgate is a terrible manager. England's record against the top sides is actually quite atrocious. They have the players to compete and win trophies but they lack the manager.

Ah come on if you are not competitive in a group people also lose interest and since kenny has come in we have not been competitive in any group

@@nealmceneaney3771 Excuses have run dry. Are Bulgaria, Finland, , Hungary or Greece full of top stars? He couldn't win a match against any of them. He can beat Gibraltar, Luxembourg, Azerbaijan, Andorra and Qatar though. Because that's his level.

Keep Kenny on so we can truly hit rock bottom will the penny finally drop then that Kenny has not been good enough to be an international manager.

Imagine 10 points out of 12 and being top of the group under McCarthy being seen as a negative compared to battling against the wooden spoon with Gibralter!😂 Kenny FM at its best! Also, getting to tournaments is the be all and end all, it's what creates the memorable moments, brings in the sponsorship and money and most importantly, inspires the next generation. Lastly, imagine thinking that the U21 England manager with experience coaching under Pep Guardiola is possibly not good enough for the Ireland job whilst stating that he might be earmarked to replace Gareth Southgate who himself got the senior England job from the England u21s! Laughable

Like grealish and rice, why in the name of jaysus would lee carsley be interested in any involvement with this farce that's irish football, everybody knew what was coming when Mccarthy got replaced, as i said already we get what we deserve, Stephen Kenny is a very decent human being and very competent at league of ireland level, truth be told most football people doubt those current crop of players have Kenny's full respect, and there lies the real problem, Stephen Kenny would be fantastic at nurturing young home grown talant from across the country and blood them into senior team under an older experienced manager like a Mccarthy or in my opinion David moyes.

Shane Duffy, Brady and Hendrick are still viable options that can add experience to any young team and steady nerves and have a wealth of caps - they should be utilised more by kenny of late.

Whatever about the talent….there is no excuse for being tactically set up wrong in two games….that’s entirely the managers fault…playing 3 centre backs against a team like Gibraltar who haven’t scored just stands out a mile
