Taped in 1984 in Washington, DC (I originally posted this 'unlisted' but since there are over 100 views I thought I'd make it public www.google.com/search?client=...)
Here's my recollection:
I took some filmmaking class from this guy named John Simmons who got a lot of Washington DC press for his classes with Media Seminars International. I spent $200 for a six week class when I was fresh out of college in 1984 and wanting to ‘get into filmmaking’ and I remember very little from the whole affair except I felt like it wasn't worth it. I was the guy who had to provide the public access gear, big clunky 3/4" cameras and u-matic tapes. I have no idea how or why Stephen Kalinich was the subject but there he was in some Media Seminars International office in downtown DC on one of the nights of our class. I guess i saved this tape since it was an early project I was involved with, but I saved it on slow speed VHS. Maybe it was taped in someone’s house because it sure doesn’t look like an office building.
Funny thing is I never heard of Johsn Simmons after that stretch in the mid 1980s when he kept getting in the Washington Post Film Notes column, and a gigantic and baffling full page spread I'll attach. I mean this local filmmaker John Simmons just completely disappeared.
