Stephen Harper: Rejecting Wokeness, Addressing China, and Defending Western Values

From 2006 to 2015, the Right Honorable Stephen Harper served as the 22nd Prime Minister of Canada. His premiership confronted challenges ranging from a global recession to the war against ISIS, but his smart and courageous leadership increased Canadian prosperity and bolstered security. Small businesses surged, while tech hubs from Waterloo to Toronto to Ottawa cemented their place as global centers of talent and investment.

In this episode, Harper offers lessons from his tenure as Prime Minister, from how global leaders should address the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic to the challenges of a new multipolar world. Looking ahead, Harper leaves us with clear warnings about the threats posed by China- including a potential invasion of Taiwan. But he notes there are also bright spots in the international landscape, such as the historic Abraham Accords, bringing with them the potential to transform the Middle East for the better. Harper established his legacy by championing the principles that have made the West exceptional. Together, we discuss the importance of defending Western principles and the responsibility of great leaders to fight for our shared values. [PM Harper has been a Senior Advisor to Joe's venture capital firm 8VC for several years.]

The constant bumbling of military contracts. Should I go on? Let me guess, at least doesn't say umm and uhh a lot. Or he wasn't a selfie Prime Minister. I remember when the CBC ran a critical story of Harper dropping off his young teenage son at school and giving him grief for shaking his sons hand and not giving him a hug. It never occurred to the CBC goons that maybe Harper’s teenage son didn’t want to be on camera hugging his dad in front of his friends while being dropped off at school. That is the kind of garbage Harper had to face day after day. Contrast that with the cover up that the CBC does for Trudeau on a daily basis. It is disgusting.

As one that did not vote for him I can anecdotally disagree, however I know I am an outlier. I do believe however that the issue is far greater than just the women that reactionarily voted for "the hair". It's the infantalizing of society in general and the feminization of young men. Boys are being raised feminist, that natural masculine traits are toxic, and to "be more like girls". There was a huge push in the 90s of the theory that if parents raised their boys as they would girls, the world would become a kinder, more gentle world. Fast forward to today, those boys have become weak and dependent men, easily swayed by authority. The result? Utter acceptance of valuing safety over personal responsibility and freedoms. This also leads to men that cannot stand up to the chaos of the female and cowtow to feminine whims.

Canada was on its way to a speculative housing market, but things blew up in the GFC before we got too carried away (0% mortgages, 40 year amortizations, etc.) In other words...dont give the government too much credit, we were just slower to head down the wrong path. In large part our financial system was propped up by the fact that we have only 6 major banks, and they are able to set housing prices by the amount of credit they are willing to give (within OSFI regulations).

The smartest Canadian PM for the past 60 years. I do miss his intellect and opinion. Yet in my Country no one can seem to find a new PC leader as smart as Harper. We keep electing people with no political savvy, that can never beat Trudeau. Interesting how he never touched on what happens to a party that has been over taken by religion.

Whoa. I absolutely despised harper when he was in power. I was younger then and bought into the idea that he was a bad person. Now after years of maturing and experiencing the alternative, I really miss his style of governce. He was far from perfect, but after this interview, I now realize he had our countries values and best interest at heart. I wish I appreciated how much better off our country was at the time. We really need someone with his demeanor and economic intelligence right now.

The key takeaway is the fact that interest rates will have to go up to control inflation. The problem is you dont need them to go up much to break the bubble on the housing market in Canada. Harper was a better Prime Minister in my opinion . Covid 19 was the beginning of events that will have far reaching effects towards the country. I dont think Canada will ever be out of debt , the current level being carried is new and will have ramifications we cant even imagine
