Thanks Isiah! I'd spaced out Price, who was probably the best pure shooter of his era. A total prototype of Curry (which is the "maximization" a smaller player within the game.) Price was "Curry" before Curry took it to another level. Good stuff.
I loved Mark Price. Unfortunately back then sports science, medical advancements and nutrition plans werent very advanced. Price should have had a much longer career then he had, and maybe thats the reason not a lot of people remember him. He was a fantastic small guard.

I actually see a lot of Trae Young in Price more than I see Curry. I think Price in today's game would have a similar impact as a Step or Trae for sure. He was quicker than Steph and a better shooter than Trae but could handle the ball like both of them and make the same kinds of plays via his finishing ability, passing or shooting. I like Abdul but he wasn't a great shooter and even then was a sub 40% from deep in every single season he played even worse when he started the whole season when healthy. He also wasn't too quick and not much of a facilitator at all, infact he was horrible at it. He can dunk tho so he had that for him.
The thing is the game has just evolved! You can take one player from every era and there’s one from the new era that has taken what they left and amplified it. History always repeats itself.
@mikehamm45

I was of that era. Watched guys like Isiah and Price go into the trees and get clobbered. And they still went in, night after night. While Isiah was good enough to control the game and score with the best of them, he teams didn’t start getting great until he learned to involve the big men that dominated that era. Same with Price whose main purpose was to work with Nance and Daugherty at the time. While the Pistons were sort of ahead of their time with their guard rotation (Dumars, Thomas, and Vinnie off the bench)… it was a much tougher game for guards. Makes you wonder how a guy like Mark Price would have dominated in todays league which is the golden age for guards.
GREAT VIDEO, AND ACKNOWLEDGMENT BY ISIAH TO PRICE, ALSO GREAT QUOTE FROM EARTH WIND AND FIRE.
Fun fact. IN a lot of circles in the NBA at the time, it was supposed to be the Cavaliers that challenged Boston and Detroit. I don't think people that missed that era understand how the Bulls were viewed. Jordan was absolutely incredible but still an enigma. And with Detroit it was a rivalry but Cleveland had Price, Nance, Williams, Harper/Ehlo and this guy named BRAD DAUGHERTYt center. People were NOT at all convinced Jordan's style of play could translate into titles. It's weird to think about but yeah, it was Cleveland people thought had the future locked up. But then Jordan was just that great & wouldn't be denied and Scottie Pippen emerged. The Bulls weren't just building for Detroit, they had to be aware of Cleveland & to an extent still Boston. As for Price - that guy was incredible but even here it doesn't do him justice. Cleveland had even drafted this kid back then named Kevin Johnson to compete for the spot in Price's second season. Price won the job, Johnson would later end up in Phoenix - and have a hell of a career. Later they drafted another very good PG named Terrell Brandon... and Price still kept the job. The guy was legit. In the 1993 NBA playoffs, I remember Phil Jackson saying how much he had to push BJ Armstrong (Bulls PG) because he had to face off against so many TOUGH PGs. Mookie Blaylock, then Mark Price, THEN NY with Doc Rivers, THEN Phoenix with the previously mentioned Kevin Johnson.
Great video.
MARK PRICE. This man needs to be a Hall of Famer.
Mark Price's form is impeccable. May not be like the lower set point style forms of today that allow them to shoot further consistently, but Mark's form was beautiful and was used in so many situations....
Mark Price is in the Hall Fame right!? Nice and accurate vid IT. Thanks for the knowledge.

Bleacher report better continue this series...maybe next time isiah can say who's the current player that plays like him...
I think comparing Price to Nash is more adequate. Deadly 3 pt shooter, played conservatively on offense, more traditional PG. Steph's ability to routinely hit shots that are so difficult it leaves opposing teammates shrugging their shoulders and yelling at each other is something we've never seen before. Those guys shot when they were open, Steph completely recreated the definition of what being open is. To him, being 30 ft from the basket with an inch of daylight is open, he's the first to create that reality, for any other player in history, those shots would be bad shots the would take most players 3 pt % down to 25.
Somebody should show this video to Gordon Gund. He really put a lot of heart into building that Cavs team. Sad what happened with Ron Harper. Him, Price, Daugherty and Kerr could have bagged a chip in Jordan era. If only Harper wasn't traded for drug use allegations.

Thank you! I saw that era of basketball and they did not hand check all the time like people claim. They picked their spots and the 3 point line was not necessary to do that. Steph would’ve killed it especially when there was no zone defenses being played. It was a lot if 1 on 1.
@Johnny-xj5qu
Жыл бұрын
Yeah hand checking doesn't work on great shooters and ball handlers. To hand check, your hands have to be down, and if your hands are down vs Steph, good night. Handchecking worked at a time when there were nowhere near as many good ball handlers. It never bothered the superstars, only the secondary players.
Chris Jackson Mahmoud Ralph from Denver was a great shooter
@Johnny-xj5qu
Жыл бұрын
Mahmoud was a career 35% 3 pt shooter, and that was in an era where teams weren't in a rush to step out that far on defense. If you remove the 95-96 seasons when the league moved the line in to compensate for the lack of shooting skill in the league, Mahmoud would be a 31% career 3 pt shooter. His volume and percentage skyrocketed with the line moved in, and were less than mediocre with it at it's current distance. He was not a good shooter, he was a streak shooter.

Zeke
The difference between 90s guards and today's guard is shooting form. Today's guards can shoot w/ ease from half court and really anywhere because they start lower and their form is more like how (most) female players shoot. I like Price's style better than Curry, but Steph definitely changed the game the last 8 or 9 years. Every single young person I play street ball w/ or at the gym runs to the 3 point line and stays there the whole time on offense because they want to shoot the 3.
@Johnny-xj5qu
Жыл бұрын
Today's players are better shooters because they're better shooters, not because they shoot like a female. That is the craziest take I've heard. Steph has beautiful form, and has the most compact, fluid, quick release the league has ever seen. Klay (before injury) is like a robot with how quick and consistent he is. KD sets high, Kawhi Sets high, Kyrie sets high, Luka, and the list goes on.... There's one player in the league who shoots like a girl and thats Jaren Jackson. Otherwise I don't understand the comment.
