Firstly, no leader in the world can tell the Chinese leadership what to do. If it was a serious crime the students would still be in China. Upful Soul the report I saw, was Trump asked the Chinese leader. Trump didn't have to ask, & those 3 could still be in China. Most people say thank you, for minimal effort things from other people, that kept us from having to do the same minimal effort things. Like holding the door, or letting someone through, or picking up something they dropped. Even if all Trump said was, "can you help us out". It still kept those kids, spending 3-10 years in prison. Trust me, China wouldn't care about that, being bad PR. They have much worse things going on over there, all the time.

So, my question is; when did D.T.'s word become gospel? How often does he exaggerate the truth or even flat out lie? All anyone has is his word. Remember his initial comments? He said the president of China said that the boys would be treated with respect & fairly. Next (all of a sudden) he's taking credit for their release😒...just saying. If he was instrumental in anyway in their release why didn't he have prior knowledge? He found out when we all did.

Tony Jones Whether he was THE reason or just had a helping hand in it, do you really think China would have released those kids without the intervention of POTUS? My brother lived there for years and said it’s hard core when it comes to stuff like this. Considering the video evidence, they’d have been in prison without Trump’s appeal on their behalf. Guaranteed. And not one of those quasi country club type joints either. ..And btw stuff like this is exactly why Trump got voted in imo. He does something that deserves universal praise -even CNN is defending him(?)-and yet he still gets bashed. In short, his haters overplay their hand and it tends to backfire.

marked3life I can't say what China would or wouldn't have done, but remember the ball was already in motion. The college had already gotten them house arrest. And as for people "bashing" #45, it's because of how he's handling the whole situation; insisting on a thank you!?! Please name me one former POTUS or private citizen ( Jesse Jackson for example) that has done that. In my opinion, it was tacky...regardless of who did it. Just so happens it was the president.

Tony Jones I’m not saying that he should be asking for a thank you, but that’s beside the overall point. The two are not mutually exclusive. One can both laud the President for a gracious and generous and undeserved action and then also criticize him when warranted. But his critics can never seem to do the one, thus rendering moot their perpetual insistence on engaging in the other... Anyway, why would the kid have thanked President Trump in his press statement unless there were absolute evidence that Trump had a direct hand in his release?? I can’t imagine that Liangelo is a Trump fan. It seems unavoidable that the only reason he would thank him is because he damn well knew that without the influence of he most powerful man on the planet, he’d be rotting in a Chinese prison for the foreseeable future.

Stephen A. Smith is so right. Christ, just because it was the typical presidential thing to do doesn't mean you don't show gratitude.

Why's nobody talking about how lavar was saying that maybe the president didn't actually get them out?? He was in China too and he said he was talking to people there and he wound up thanking them. I'd believe what Lavar Ball says over Trump

Max's defense of Lavar Ball could equally apply to Trump. But Trump gets shitted on by the media for the very same things Max find admirable in Ball.

Lavar is a great father and has raised his kids very well and he should be praised for that BUT seems like he rather keep his son in jail then hurt his brand. He said it was no big deal (even tho it was a big deal) and he said Trump really didnt help them (without Trump they wouldve went from house arrest to jail since they had evidence on the boys) he said that just to get media attention to help his brand more AND he promoted his brand in the interview. Lavar is ungrateful. Lavar rather cut off his leg then say "thank you" to Trump. This is all a show for Lavar
