memphis thought that in the future it would be more profitable to get 10 million in cap relief, as well as 2 first rounders. However, probably another key for the grizzlies was the addition of Marc Gasol, they would not have accepted it without him: M.Gasol played high school ball in Memphis and they not only knew about his potential, they were also convinced he could be lured to the NBA if they had his rights. He is still a rookie so it's early to make an accurate judgement about the trade.

Kwame was just an expiring contract thrown into that deal. What the Grizzlies actually gained from this deal were two potential up-and-comers in Javaris Crittenton and Pau's younger brother Marc (arguably the best center in Europe right now) as well as two first round picks for this year and 2010. Come to think about it, this may have been the best trade either team could have done... ;-)

Aww Man this is one of my favorite Steven A Smith rants of all time. Man i miss this guy. Wether u liked him or hated him the man knew what he was talking about in terms of basketball
3 WCF CHAMPIONSHIPS. 2 nba championships in last 3 year. Best trade in history I love you Gasol!
Now if only we could get rid of Carlose Boozer and get Marc Gasol
“Is that a trick question?” 😂
WOW the 2nd trade of the Decade. The first being KG to Boston. Hopefully we can get Bosh this off season to team up with LBJ and make us title contenders for the next 5 to 7 years
Damn Stephen A in his prime was a BAAAAAAAD MAN to have to debate against
"no disrespect whatsoever" 🤣
BREAKING NEWS: Los Angeles Lakers 117, Orlando Magic 113 Kobe Bryant 36 pts, 10 rebounds, 6 assists Pau Gasol 30 pts, 9 rebounds. 3 other players in double figures... WHO CAN BEAT THE LAKERS WITH STATS LIKE THIS?

I remember this interview like our was today. Before espn was worth watching
LMAO I love Stephen A. Smith. He always makes me laugh! He is soooooo funny man!
Stephen Smith always speaking truth
Most people think that this was a bad trade for Memphis and turned a good one because Marc Gasol became a great player unexpectedly but everyone who had seen him play knew he would be a great player. At the moment of the trade, he was dominating spanish league like nobody had done since Sabonis.

That's easy to say in 2023. But in 2008 when the trade happened, it was considered a fleece.
Thanks for your two cents. Instead of the Lakers being contenders 100% of the seasons, they're contenders 95% of the seasons. Your basketball knowledge amazing. I have learned a lot from your obvious intelligence. You have set me straight and now I know that the NBA is not a complete sham. We're done now.
This made Stephen A Smith right here
Lakers great decision by that time. Kobe, Odom and Gasol. Triple Alliance of Successful
Damn, can see why kwame hates stephen a smith lmao
i just saw stephen on espn for the first time in 3 years today yay
This is Stephen A Smith before he went crazy!
Lakers came through with this trade. And my boy Odom is still there! Go Lakers!

Is that a trick question? They gave up Kwame Brown, who cares??
I actually forgot about this particular “KWAME BROWN!!” clip. Classic.
"NO DISRESPECT WHATSOEVER..." LMAOOOOOOOO
Omg time flys
Kwame was thrown in the deal to match contracts..
one of Stephen A Smith's greatest comments! Love his straight forwardness haha
2021 and I’m still here 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I had to watch this video after the A.D. trade. Similar situation 🤔🤔.....think about it
Love this. Stephen A is exactly right I was just as happy to bounce kwame's ass as I was to get the Spaniard
Gotta love Steven A. The Lakers are scary good now. As long as Bynum comes back healthy they will be a major force in the West. It's starting to look like the good old days once again. Long live the Lakers/Celtics rivalry.

Who's here from 2023????
"is that a trick question?" LMFAO
I've always tolerated Smith because, one, he's entertaining, two, he's usually right. The man knows his stuff.

imagine Kobe, odom, bynum, "marc" gasol, ariza, fisher. Lakers would been better down the road if Marc showed promise back then before Grizzlies. Marc carries a team further than Pau. Before last year, Pau never won a single playoff game and never past the first road without Kobe

+blackcobra1981 Pau helped us win 2 titles .. We got the better end of that deal hands down. Marc was an 18 year old fatass back then.

La needed rings in 09 2010 not 2012 2013 when marc came to Prominence it worked out good for both clubs more so for lakers ( 2 rings )

marc wouldve matured too late...it wouldve been great if they got to keep him and still get pau...imagine both gasols, ariza, kobe and either paul or deron williams, who were both available at the time in exchange for bynum
It was great to be a Lakers fan that day, unlike now with leflop
Watching 10 years after..
Stephen A is bustin some rhymes right there.
When you have a frontcourt like Bynum, Odom, and Gasol(if he learns the triangle well), and you add Kobe, and Fisher to the mix, and don't forget the Laker Bench which has a lot of depth btw, this team has the potential to challenge Boston or Detroit for the NBA Championship.
Lmfao!!! This is a all time classic.
I love Stephen dude speaks his mind
How time flies... now a classic video of SAS 😂😀🤣
Peak Stephen A!! 💯 right on his take.
And some nba analyst, he is a skilled player, and they up winning a 2peat
HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! The fisrt half of this video is absolutely hilarious!!!
Gasol and Bryant are perfect compliments.
"Is that a trick question?" LOL!
I love Stephen A.'s response.
Greatest Stephen A Smith moment.
he's on a roll.
made my decade
oh man, i love this guy.
people hate on him because he talks really loud sometimes, but the guy is very informative and knows a lot of people. he's not afraid to speak his mind. i like the guy
@terrelya83 You're absolutely right. With every new finals appearance and every new championship, this video gets more replay value each time!
LMAO on Stephen's reaction!....that was golden! "They gave up Kwa-may Brown.....Who cares?!?!"
"Is that a trick question?" ...LOL!!!!
Stephen A speak the truth brotha speak the truth!!!
lol "Is that a trick question?"
"NO DISRESPECT WHATSOEVER" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
WOW, what a no brainer..they get Gasol!!! Incredible!!!
"no dissrespect what so ever" lmao!!
I think this popped up as a recommended video in 2020 cause this was the last time Stephen A was right about anything.
This is great.
"They gave up KWAME BROWN" lol dying
Such a great deal for both teams. Of course, it didn't seem like it at the time.
Thank god for gasol 3 finals appearance and 2 rings baby
Yea you right. Thats exactly what I was thinking about this trade. We did to Memphis what Miami did to us.
He was always right. Went to 3 str8 FINALS
This is golden
Amen Stephen. Amen.
you're right now that i think about it.. coz shit, they still got Radmanovic.. still got Farmar, Walton AND Turiaf.. the Lakers are just in a great position right now... honestly.. it's feelin good to be a Lakers fan these days.. REAL good.. it was good already with Bynum.. and now it's like.. damn..
memphis thought that in the future it would be more profitable to get 10 million in cap relief, as well as 2 first rounders.
Steven a smith is all time great on tv
I was thrilled to find out Kwame was gone! Seriously, they won't miss much without him. And besides, Pau is fundamentally a much better player than Kwame. I felt sorry for him because the LA fans were coming down pretty tough on him, but DAMN I'm happy we got Gasol on that trade.
"They gave up Kwamay Brown!" lol
"He has small hands, he can't catch the ball"
I love this video
Kwame was just an expiring contract thrown into that deal. What the Grizzlies actually gained from this deal were two potential up-and-comers in Javaris Crittenton and Pau's younger brother Marc (arguably the best center in Europe right now) as well as two first round picks for this year and 2010. Come to think about it, this may have been the best trade either team could have done... ;-)
LOL i laughed so hard when I watched this!
How do you really feel Stephen A? Way to go man!
i wish all of BSPN analyst were like Stephen A smith !
