Why are you so sure that Stephanie is a "liberal" (aka left-winger)? She never makes any political statements in the show. Being a tattooed punkrock-listening lesbian doesn't really prevent you from being a libertarian or (moderate) conservative.

She's so lovely and kind, my heart broke when I've seen her backstory. It really makes me happy the writers respect the characters enough to make each one believable with their initial introduction.

Ironically, by being an outsider who's kind to people and guides a child, she's more Christ-like than almost anybody in Moralton!

Stephanie and Orel are the bright lights in the darkness of Moralton. But it's refreshing to see that even Stephanie needed some character growth as well. While she's clearly more stable and put together than the rest of the town, she still had a few hang ups, such as her denial over what her relationship with Kim actually was. And it was pretty neat to see Reverend Putty be the one who helps enlighten her about it, much like how she enlightens him.

I think it would have been interesting if we got to see Doughy and Stephanie interact as they have both suffered thanks to the actions of Kim Latchkey. Stephanie was used as a cruel joke and Doughy is completely ignored by both his parents

as someone who grew up as a girl liking girls, closeface hit really close to home with me. it took a while for me to understand that the girls i liked never felt the same for me, and most of them used me. stephanie is probably my favorite moral orel character, i like her design and character and she's one of the very few genuinely good people in moralton.

I think that Stephanie’s relationship with her dad was rather wholesome. In most cases with the estranged child and parent relationship, it’s written where the parent only uses the child to fulfill some selfish desire (ex. Brian Griffin and his son Dillion in “Brian’s a Bad Father” comes to mind.) But in the case for Stephanie and Rod, they both got a stable relationship and each other to rely on. Rod’s personality lightened up a bit as as the series came to an end, and Stephanie doesn’t have to be alone.

I will say, I'm surprised you never talked about her habit of adding a new piercing to numb her emotional pain, that's essentially just a stylish form of s/h at that point. Keeping that in mind I can't help but feel like some of her actions are a tad self-destructive, or at least it's that she values her own feelings and safety so little that she's willing to risk them for a bit of connection or the happiness of people she cares about. heck, the fact that she's stayed in Moralton all this time and onward, rather than going somewhere she might find a community of her own

Stephanie Putty is one of three of my FAVORITE characters of Moral Oral and I'm so happy you covered her Trevor! Close face was my favorite episode of her because we as the audience got to see her back story where she was relatively normal back in high school until her best friend Kim used her emotions as a shock gay joke and afterwards she literally tried to pierce her feelings away. And finding out Reverend Rod Putty wasn't a homophobe was actually refreshing to hear and made me slightly like him better than in the beginning. Also, may I ask if you could do ones on Joe and Nurse Bendy please. I'd be very appreciative. Thank you again Trevor and good luck on your future content.

With the show being cut short. I'm sure we missed an episode on how Stephanie and her mother acted together I mean with the small clues we see she cares about her father so much she changed her last name to puddy so her mom must have been crazy and yes even with the stalking thing something else must have been going on And that's without Bringing up how she likes girls

Stephanie has to be my favourite character in the show. She's basically the big sister Orel never had. She's light-hearted, unafraid to be who she wants to be and is the most mature of all the residents of the town. It's a real shame we never got more episodes with her because, like you said, it'd be great to see her interact with more people outside Orel, Putty, and her "ex".

I think that point about her shop being able to stay afloat is interesting. As many people as there are willing to brave the trek to Buried Pleasures, just as many aren't. I'm pretty sure theres a reason cylindrical tools with completely unrelated uses are kept together at the hardware store. I don't think Bloberta is the only person using unsafe makeshift tools instead of just buying actual toys from Stephanie. I'd wager she makes most of her money off very occasional customers for more complicated bigger ticket items they can't substitute or make themselves, rather than more regular business from people buying less expensive, more mundane stuff.

Why can I imagine Stephanie playfully teasing Orel when he’s old enough to be there as a customer looking for ‘wedding night’ advice? It just kinda seems like her sort of attitude - she’d probably be proud of him for wanting to learn, especially from someone who knows her way around the subject (perhaps from both angles, ofc 🏳️‍🌈). She’d definitely be a far better teacher than Clay, at least 😂

I feel like one of the reasons orel doesn't become his parents is due to the motherly figure of Stephanie the fatherly actions of coach (later on) and the fact he gets genuine live from christina and Bartholomew All people that he is told are outsiders that are bad but orel learns instead to Ignore the influence of the "right" and take influence from the people who genuinely wish him well as well as the lessons of his faith instead of the twisted version that is forced at him Without these familial figures orel would have been lost to the town

I'd say I like her and Orel's relationship because she is one of the very few people in the town that doesn't try to force his thinking to suit an image. She tries to help him in the best way she can, like the bhudist tracks to help him clear his mind for the praying contest.

[Spoilers] Personally, my favorite relationship/dynamic in the entire show is Reverend and Stephanie. There’s something special about Revs warming up to Stephanie and slowly becoming a better, more accepting person. By the end of the series, Reverend is a completely changed man and actually cares about people and wants to help them with their problems. He can see and understand himself, and he can see his mistakes when he makes them and actively tries to change when he notices them. In fact, Reverend is the narrator at the end of the show when Orel grows up and starts a good life with his new family and his demeanor and tone is very balanced, peaceful, and warm because he has changed and likely adopted these traits from Stephanie, implying that their relationship has gotten even better with time. In the flash forward scene you can even see Orel still hangs pictures of his brothers and old family on the wall, even documenting their successes as well implying that Moralton has gotten a lot better as Orel grew up, and Stephanie and Orel’s positivity spread all over the town making it better.

I think Stephanie was supposed to end up with Nurse Bendy at the end (I read it on the show's wiki, but I don't know if it's official). I'd loved to see that. Nurse Bendy giving up on men and Stephanie showing her the kind of love and respect she deserves but doesn't know someone can give her. Stephanie would also been an amazing stepmom to Joe since she was a little bit of a troublemaker herself (I also believe Joe is closeted). Maybe he'd end up taking care of the shop after she retires.

I cried hard the first time I saw the ep where reverend realizes SHE was apart of the kissing lesbian couple he broke up at the Arm’s Length Dance years ago. And he shows genuine care for her by saying “no, she didn’t care about you”. I just wanted Stephany to be happy and loved. And the writers gave that to her by showing R. Putty was able to put Bible aside: one girl likes the other, but the cheerleader doesn’t. And he remembered, and took pity on her. ❤

It's interesting that she never just moved to Sinville. It's only a short bus ride away and she would have fit in just fine there. I suppose the sex-shop market is probably much more saturated there, where as in Moralton she pretty much has a monopoly. But I'm sure she could find other work if she really wanted to. Maybe she stayed in order to connect with Putty but it really isn't that far so she could still have seen him if she lived in Sinville. Maybe it comes down to what you said about "paying it forward" Maybe she stays in order to help shape Moralton into a more accepting community. To be there for any kids like she was, who need a non-judgmental presence in their lives
