I personally think spending time and get along with them.

I understand that Diana was afraid of the memory of her father being forgotten and finding it difficult to cope but she was being selfish for ruining her mother's happiness, she wasn't thinking it was hard for her mother too. However I'm glad she learned her lesson.

I aint a parents but as a teacher by profession we deal with different types of students with different backgrounds. In case of step parents, it would all depend on how a child is raise from the start. Many of us tend to disregard it but we fail to see the impact created in raising them from the early age.

If you're going to be a stepparent, it's best to think about the kids and talk to them. Tell them you're not trying to replace their parent they lost but you are there for them too.

It was quite abrupt from the mother's end. She could've at least talked with her before moving forward. At least for safety reasons, if not for anything. But it was wrong from her end as well to accuse the stepfather like that. But it's great to see that the mother put her daughter first at the cost of her own happiness.

It depends on the circumstances I suppose. The ways that I have assisted families and their children is actually talking how they are feeling and come up with strategies to help them cope and where to go when they need support. If it was a divorce scenario I often remind the parents this is between the two of you do not put your children in the middle because they didn't ask for it. The most important is happiness they have a right to move on with their lives and be happy.
