    So I’m following this tutorial and everything is going really well so far! It’s actually looking like what it should but the only issue is that I’ve got all these loose bit of yarn hanging out from where i tied the different colours together. Am I fine to cut these off without affecting the piece/unraveling? I’m realising their probably meant to be on the inside to be hidden but most of mine are on the outside cause I’m left handed and I’m reversing your steps

  • @themaryjay

    @themaryjay

    Жыл бұрын

    You can cut it shorter, but I wouldn't cut all of it off just because it could lead to it unravelling later. If it's on the outside, try pulling the yarn strands through to the other side with a needle. I'm not too sure what your piece looks like but you can usually also flip the piece inside out if you haven't started stuffing yet :)

    Not an expert, but if your yarn is smaller you should use a smaller hook. I’d start with following the recommended hook on the yarn packaging and doing a test square to see if you like the tightness, and going up or down a size based on that

    I did the seven single crochets in the magic ring but then my magic ring won’t tighten when pulling the tail end… it just broke. Any ideas why that might be?

    In all transparency, I’m not 100% sure why it happens. But it does happen to me sometimes (more so when I first started crocheting than now). I think sometimes it’s just the way the yarn is if you’re using the blanket yarn and sometimes it breaks. I had a skein that kept doing that earlier last week. It’s frustrating but sometimes you just have to try again. If it’s just not closing, it may be a issue with the circle. Does your magic circle close and open before you add the stitches? If so, are you working the single crochets over the yarn tail as well (over both strands of yarn)? If you didn’t work over both strands of yarn, that may be why it won’t close after the stitches are added. Sometimes it may just be too tight, so watch your tension. If all else fails, you can use the yarn tail to sew closed the circle after you get further into the piece.

    Get acrylic yarn and make your magic circle with it. Put the stitches into the magic circle with your blanket yarn. Acrylic yarn is very unlikely to snap so it is good to do magic circles with it.
