How to renew Indian Passport Online | Step by Step| Detailed Process| Documents required
Here are the detailed Steps
Step 1 Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. (Click on "Register Now" link on the Home Page).
Step 2 Login to the Passport Seva Online Portal with the registered Login Id.
Step 3 Click "Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport" link.
Step 4 Fill in the required details in the form and submit.
Step 5 Click the "Pay and Schedule Appointment" link on the "View Saved/Submitted Applications" screen to schedule an appointment.
Online Payment has been made mandatory for booking appointments at all PSK/POPSK/PO.
Online Payment can be made using any one of the following modes:
Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa)
Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) Associate Banks and Other Banks)
SBI Bank Challan
Step 6 Click the "Print Application Receipt" link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number.
Note: Carrying printout of Application Receipt is no longer required. An SMS with your appointment details is also accepted as proof of appointment during your visit to Passport Office.
Step 7 Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO) where appointment has been booked, along with original documents.
Note:
Only emergency/medical cases and preapproved categories may visit Passport Seva Kendra without appointment. Service will be provided at the discretion of Passport Seva Kendra in-charge/Passport Officer.
In case of minor applicants (below 4 years of age), carry the recent passport size photograph (4.5 X 3.5 cm) with white background.
Resubmission of application form is required, in case the applicant does not visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days from the online form submission.
How to Track Status of Your Passport Renewal
The steps to track the status of your passport renewal are mentioned below:
Step 1: Visit the official website of Passport Seva.
Step 2: On the homepage, navigate to ‘Track Application Status.’
Step 3: Choose the application type as Passport/PCC/IC/GEP.
Step 4: Enter the file number of your passport and your date of birth.
Step 5: Click on the ‘Track Status’ option. The status of your passport renewal will be displayed on the screen.
Documents Required for Passport Renewal
A person must submit additional paperwork together with the application form when applying to renew their passport. The Passport Seva Kendra website has a "Document Advisor" for passport renewal. Depending on the kind of passport being renewed (regular/tatkaal) and the applicant's age (child/adult), different documentation is required.
The general documents for most applications are as follows:
Original old Passport
Self-attested copies of the first two and last two pages of the passport.
Self-attested copy of the Emigration Check Required (ECR)/Non-ECR page.
Self-attested copy of the page of observation, if any, made by the Passport Issuing Authority.
Self-attested copy of the validity extension page, if any, with respect to the Short Validity Passport (SVP)
Proof of documents which eliminate the cause of issuance of Short Validity Passport (SVP).
Visiting the Passport Office to Renew Passport
Bring the ARN and all original documents to the Passport Seva Kendra/Regional Passport Office on the day of your appointment.

What documents are highly recomended for renewing the passport?
Thanks for the guidance. What to fill for present residential address if I reside in the US? I am working in the US on H1B and need to soon renew my passport. My aadhar card in India has my parents' Delhi address. Can I mention the same address while applying?
Hi Bharat, I've already completed the application, but when I try to make an appointment, it takes me back to the original page where we have to choose the location and provide the captcha information. Would you possibly know anything about the same? I've been experiencing this for the past week.

Check out at 15:50.. documents required for non ecr.. it could be matriculation certificate or other documents..
Age about 50 don’t require any documentation for non ECR category, right.

You have missed documents for Non ECR category. If I don't want to carry original marksheets. Can I upload Graduation degree via Digilocker in POB/POA drop down. Wii that be accepted? For ITR related documents what all are accepted for Non ECR category? Customer care is telling me that with or without digi lcoker u need to carry originals? What was your personal experience. Did they insist you for originals?

@@BharatArora5 Yeah that's last resort. But did they ask you to share original for DigiLocker doc too? You also went in Delhi/NCR office. I am also going CHD/LDH passport office.

@@BharatArora5 Oh So no benefit of digilocker for citizens as of on ground. 🙂. Only "Jumla" like this govt is best at doing. They have advt everywhere on official channels on internet that no original reqd if using digilocker.
