Thank you for your question. I'm very happy to hear that you want to learn Kannada. I'm happy to help. Buy the Kannada text book that first grade students study and start with it. 1) To write Kannada, this is the perfect video to get started. I have a playlist full of videos that will teach you step by step to write Kannada. The details are in the description of this video. 2) To speak Kannada, you need to speak it and practice the sounds. Don't worry if you make mistakes. Remember how kids learn, they say wrong things and then when we correct them, they learn the correct word. 3) You will be able to learn fast if you are fearless and practice everyday. Start with these videos and I can guide you once you reach next stage. You'll know when you get stuck. You should be patient and give yourself lot of time to learn a new language. Good luck.

1) There are 15 vowels, 34 consonants AND 2) combine each of the consonants with the vowels to form simple syllables (which are alphabets too) 3) combine every consonant with every other consonant to form different types of syllables (which are unique) Kannada is a VAST and exhaustive language. 🙂

@@user-ox8wp8bt9z Kannada is Karnataka's language. Kannada used to have 16 vowels but one vowel (roo - ೠ) was removed or made obsolete. Linguists make these decisions for various reasons. That's why as of the year 2023, there are 15 vowels in Kannada. Does this answer your question? :) Edit - Technically, there are 13 vowels - two alphabets ಅಂ and ಅಃ are yogawahas but when teaching Kannada to beginners, we consider ಅಂ and ಅಃ as vowels. As Kannada grammar is introduced in detail it gets more refined.

I have one doubt, why do people in bangalore write Bata as "ಬಾಟ" why not "ಬಾಟಾ"? I can give many such examples Sunakya is written as ಸುಕನ್ಯ instead of ಸುಕನ್ಯಾ, Usha is written as ಉಷ instead of ಉಷಾ, and so on.......

Good doubt. This is because of Kannada grammar. Every consonant - vyanjana has 3 types of sounds - root sound, alpa praana and maha praana. And gunithaksharas/syllables are formed when consonants combine with vowels. In the case of ಬಾಟ - ಟ is a gunithakshara/syllable formed when it combines with the vowel ಅ. ​@@DS-jo4xx Hriswaswara is a vowel with a shorter duration. Dheergaswara is a vowel that has a slightly longer duration. The difference is very subtle and can be identified with a lot of practice. Until it is practiced, the sounds - sound very similar to one another. 🙂Learning Kannada fine tunes one's ability to listen. I hope this helps.

@@DS-jo4xx Let's step back from it a little bit and try a different approach. 1) Look at this video and see how the swaras are grouped by colour - which is my way of saying it belongs to one group of sounds - which will help create syllable to create a word. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKCru6-BhK-elMo.html ಎ & ಏ -- are two different vowels ನ is a consonant. When ನ combines with ಎ it gives ನೆ (gunithakshara / syllable) When ನ combines with ಏ it gives ನೇ (gunithakshara / syllable) The formula to create syllables and words is the same. You just apply it to every vowel and consonant. You need to apply this formula for words that are formed with the consonant ನ This video shows how to apply this formula on the consonant ಕ -- kzread.info/dash/bejne/oY1pztSgj7TRmdI.htmlfeature=shared&t=94 This playlist has the videos that show how words are formed in Kannada.
