Thanks for the upload Jeff 👌👍
I just love your guys videos. Keep it up!
overhauled the steering system on my 72 Mustang. Even rebuilt the steering box. I can appreciate the conquering sentiment at the beginning. Funny.
well done guys! good luck with the rest.
Brilliant Video as always! Wish we had access to all your reasonably priced parts shops here in Melbourne Australia.

Sgt Frag We feel for our Aussie mates! All things car seem much harder over in Oz for sure. From spares to salvage yards, you are much more hard pressed.
Good video. Liked the humor and am glad I can learn these things from afar.
Question: Looks like you installed the power steering cylinder bracket about 6 years ago using the crush nut. How is it holding? Do you see a need to weld the bracket?

See answer one.
Can you add power assist and keep your existing manual steering box? Mine is in exceptional condition - just want to add assist and change the pitman arm if that is required. Also, my car is a 65 mustang so taking out the box and steering shaft is obviously a big pain.

Yeah but the manual box is not as quick a ratio and won't perform as well.

@@AutoRestoMod thanks. I taked to Chockostang and they said I'd have "super power steering" which sounds terrible. So I'm pulling the box. Sure wish the 65 had a rag joint or some kind of coupler to disconnect!
Confused where is the master cylinder attached to the? My ranchero 68 has a large power booster ? I am just taking out my old steering column and putting a new used one in. My rag joint is ripped

The master cylinder is attached to the firewall in the same location as your power booster.
when i put my car on Park it goes down to Reverse. what do you guys think it is?

Does the car roll when you do this or is it a lever issue? If the car does roll when in park (lever drops) it is usually a parking paw issue in the transmission. If the arm is just relaxing into that position but the car stays in park, you have a worn column.

it goes into reverse gear and reverses. some dude said i might have to change the gearbox?
You hear some Ford people say don’t use the pickle fork. Any idea why?

The Pickle fork or tie rod end puller, works great but will destroy a ball joint. And if you don't get a good one, I have seen them spread out like butter. But, They can be effective. I don't use them on Pitman arms because you can wreck the steering box by prying on the box and arm to separate them. Better to buy a Pittman arm puller.

Autorestomod Manic Mechanic Gasoline Media Thanks, I don’t plan on using it on the Pitman arm. I swear I’ve had this pickle fork for 30+ years and it’s beefy. She ain’t spreading. And I don’t plan on keeping any of the ball joints. They are toasty.
Why are you removing the steering box

The steering box was super sloppy on that car.
