Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZread, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZread. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZread, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.

Fun fact: when Becker & Fagen of Steely Dan were a struggling club act in early-70s L.A., one of their demos got to Barbra Streisand's manager, who took it to Barbra. Long story short, Streisand thought it was "far out" and recorded "I Mean to Shine" for her 1972 album "Barbra Joan". Steely Dan were happy: they were broke and having Barbra record their song was a life saver. "It wasn't much of a 'song," they later said. "But we thought it was kind of cool she took a chance on us."

This track is about Caribbean immigrants coming to New York with dreams of a 'golden' future. Steely Dan is the band other bands listened to. their catalog isn't a rabbit hole - they are a deep mine shaft, with multiple side tunnels to explore. You better drop some bread crumbs if you ever want to get back out (you might choose to stay). Walter Becker and Donald Fagan are two of the most brilliant duos ever - every album is different (but remarkably identifiable as them). They were the ongoing core, and surrounded themselves with the best session players in the world, and were perfectionists in production. Much like Pink Floyd, they are pretty much their own genre - they cover rock, jazz fusion, prog, soul, reggae, 'yacht' rock and more....and much of their lyric content is deep, and can be confusing You can't really pick a bad song. Have at it.

Steely Dan lyrics are usually a bit cryptic but you can count on them having something to do with sex, drugs, crime, bad behavior or social ills of some sort. They are absolutely delicious! 😂 Musical genius!

One of their most lyrically heavy songs, rather than energetic tracks. Try Don't Take Me Alive on the same album. Best guitar intro ever.

Steely Dan are like no one else- They are a genre of their own and they are amazing at it. Two guys Walter Becker (RIP) and Donald Fagen who brought in the best session musicians to create pure magic time and time again. Oh and you accidentally dropped in with my favourite Album of theirs. Just pick anything though, seriously you cannot go wrong.

Steely Dan's lyric are not always easy to intepret and often have autobiographical references so don't sweat it but once you learn the meaning or at least what might be the general consensus it will take on a different meaning.Nevertheless I'm pretty sure they will become a favorite. It might be good to start with the early stuff and progress to their later output which is just amazing music.

Steely Dan is a deep rabbit hole! This is one their lesser- known tracks, but still groovy. For a really energy-packed and instrumentally driven song, try 'Bohdisattva'. 'Deacon Blues' is another great tune. They have a multitude of them.

I bought the album in '76.I knew what the song was about right away. I figured St John (US Virgin Islands) was really San Juan. "Where they learned to fear their dark companions." Immigrants to the US are often taught to fear, hate African Americans. That has been the historical experience. A song more relevant today than ever.

Any SD song is welcome. Steely Dan, like Alan Parsons Project, was a studio band that utilized the very best session musicians during the early years when they had their primary output. It wasn’t until the 90’s that they began actually touring.

You're 100% correct in your analysis of this band. I think that was a good choice for an introduction to their music. They're one of the coolest bands in the universe. Night by Night is a great tune to check out that's sort of a deep cut. Their song Josie is another goodie. All their albums are great. One of my favorite bands.

This song, as good as it is, isn't a strong cut from the band. From this album alone, Kid Charlemagne and Green Earings are much more enticing. Steely Dan started as a band but by the third or fourth album, morphed into Donald Fagan and Walter Becker and assorted ensembles of studio musicians putting out immaculately recorded and produced music to delight our ears and minds. Try Black Cow, FM (No Static at All), Dr. Wu, Deacon Blues, Josie, Babylon Sisters, Gaucho, Peg, ok, I can go on and on but that can get you started. Well worth the dive.

Great to start with their best, because now you can just move on to other bands. But I wouldn't. Even though letting loose is not their thing, their tight studio musicians, with Becker's biting guitar, and Fagen's capricornian goat genius creativity, they have a massive string of great songs, with Aja (asia), "Babylon Sisters", "Don't Take Me Alive", "Charlie Freak", and "Bodhisattva" being among my personal faves.
