Steel pulse forever
Just the quality of German/Rockpalast recording in those days ... so clear, so rich.
oRIGINAL Pulse..!! Handsworth Revolution, Tribute to the Martyrs, Caught You and True Democracy....they are the BEST..!!
Best British Reggae Band great Line up.
The best Steel Pulse live ever
am a die-hard fan of steel pulse, i have followed and loved pulse all the way..... Steel Pulse has evolved, metamorphosed....the stage of ladysingers, stage of hornsmen, two keyboardsmen etc,,,,,, but i tell you,,,,this original set up, the deliverance, the spirit, the vibe, the show, if i dare say surpasses all. do you feel so too?

Certainly agree. I've been into SP since 81 with Harassment the first track i heard from them and loved it. But like so many acts everyone has their peak and will I always appreciate them for their sensational contribution to Reggae.. Iyah!

Love Steel Pulse
Ah yes, Steel Pulse. I've probably seen more Steel Pulse concerts than any other reggae act. Why? They toured extensively with punk bands and were embraced by skinheads in England. In the late 70's in Britain the roots reggae sound took hold. The most famous groups, The Cimarons, Aswad, Misty In Roots, Black Slate, Matumbi, Capital Letters, Steel Pulse and the great poet/singer Linton Kwesi Johnson all gained prominence at that time. Their importance cannot be overstated, For the first time absolutely first class reggae was being played outside Jamaica. Make no mistake about it--these groups took a backseat to no one. You have only to watch this tremendous Steel Pulse concert, with its super sound quality. They're playing songs from their first three groundbreaking albums, Handsworth Revolution (1978) Tribute to the Martyrs (1979) and Caught You (1980) On a personal note, I remember the time I bought Handsworth Revolution, taped it and brought the tape and a boombox to Washington Square park in New York City. I usually sat with the Jamaicans in the park. When I pushed play on the boombox all heads turned towards me. No one had heard reggae like this before---Steel Pulse had a unique sound. Terry Wilson, who happened to be in the park that day and would later became host of the famous Midnight Ravers show on WBAI (he still hosts it), made me play the tape three times over. Yes, Steel Pulse is one helluva a band and treasure in reggae music.

"Midnight Ravers" with Terry Wilson and then "Labbrish" with Habte Selassie. The first two reggae radio shows I found the first week I arrived in the States from London 1980. Then Gil Bailey got started on WLIB. "Irie Ites" records, Tompkins Square Park and Washington Square Park. Good memories.

What a f.....g groove, Steel Pulse at their best level !
roots e roots, roots e roots
Too bad this live performance was not sold as a LP and distributed widely. This is the best Steel Pulse recording I have ever heard. That edgy, raw, and rootsy Reggae sound is captured perfectly here. Bravo!

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉genial🎉🎉🎉
saw these guys in glasgow at night moves must have been about 1980 or thereabouts, tightest band i ever saw, got to meet them afterwards,,,,,,,,,,,,,happy days indeed.
Vintage Steel Pulse. Fantastic. Thats when Steel Pulse really moved the "musical pulse" around the "musical beat" and exchanged them too creating a totally new sound and feel within or on top of the Reggae beat.
So good to see the original members. The band will never be able to top this crew.
Steel Pulse at their RooootiesT level, the best.
Steel Pulse, Aswad, Gregory Isaacs, Burning Spear, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Sly & Robbie, Peter Tosh, Bob, ... 2-tone & rest of Ska, ... all the way to Ken Boothe & Curtis Mayfield & onwards ... ❤
"Babylon make the rules", Selwyn nailed it,.... a good introooooo
I saw steel pulse in London at the Brixton academy in 1982+85 both gigs were amazing great. I when with my brother phill his mate Ian, nice one for posting this online one love
They were so much better than today
this is the best steel pulse lineup, they had such a great sound. love it
Cool to seem them doing their thing when they were so young and hungry. There is a passion and joy that is palpable, reminds me of why I originally fell in love with their music

classic period... real music for the soul makes me feel closer to the ALMIGHTY!!!!
one of the best reggae band ever
Wonder why I'm not there! Probably would've been skanking along the bassman, the drummer, the percussionist, the guitarist, the drummer, the keysman and the vocalist. Mad zoundz, this set of musicians. Steel Pulse.
I love how Steel Pulse features tasty guitar parts and solos without ever going into heavy metal overkill which so many reggae bands do when trying to impress their white fans. Excellent as always.

Excellent observation ,first class yet not just white fans. They think they have to do it to attract the "rock crowd in the USA and west". Yet look how modern groups are trying their damned hardest to recreate the roots sounds of the early bands from the 60's70's or even pre 70's to be taken seriously. This is happening worldwide ,Argentina France Europe Chile Spain South East Asia USA . No disrespect to these guitarists , we just respect the "revolution in awareness and truth of authenticity" .Authentic Roots. Peace and Respect.
amen man. this is prime steel pulse and prime reggae
I encourage you to watch the entire set, but here is where each individual song begins: 01:11 (Bad Man - from the album 'Handsworth Revolution') 04:52 (Uncle George - from the album 'Tribute to the Martyrs') 10:36 (Harassment - from the album 'Caught You') 15:30 (Babylon Makes the Rules - from the album 'Tribute to the Martyrs') 20:44 (Blasphemy (Selah) - from the album 'Tribute to the Martyrs') 27:36 (Drug Squad - from the album 'Caught You') 31:32 (Soldiers- from the album 'Handsworth Revolution') 35:15 (Tribute to the Martyrs - from the album 'Tribute to the Martyrs') 41:06 (Reggae Fever - from the album 'Caught You') 48:55 (Ku Klux Klan- from the album 'Handsworth Revolution') 53:32 (Sound System - from the album 'Tribute to the Martyrs') thanks to the op

I have to say, this era, was when they were at their best! late 70s/early 80s
this time 1979 roots rock reggae original melody ! Steel Pulse YES!
This can never be repeated. Best.
the melodies are much more complicated and lively than most of other reggaetunes..
AaAAAA Where to begin !? They are just so well rehearsed and beautifully orchestrated pieces. Timeless upbeat Reggae bursting at the seams with creativity and boundless groove!
They're my heroes, my professors, my role model! They opened my eyes to see the oppression and the oppressors in the world! What a great concert! What a great band! Peace!
Best live small venue concert that I've ever seen! Such a crisp sound at an early stage of the group. David's voice is as clear as is on the album. And the background lyrics are sung simultaneously as the lead vocals, but the lyrics are different. Very complicated songs to perform. Loads of practice. Simply Awesome!

Randy Elliott David Hinds is one of the most underated lyricists of our time! His lyrics are profound and deeply moving. Steel Pulse had such polish, even on their earliest albums. They were tight and always on. I've seen them live 6 times from 1989 - 2012 and they are and always will be one of the greatest bands of any genre. Irie ites!

I've seen Steel Pulse about 15 times since 2000 between NYC, Philly, Baltimore, DC, VA, and Florida. Hinds' voice is always studio crisp. The band sharp and tight. 1 of the 3 best live bands I've personally ever seen MUSICALLY. The other 2 being Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Rush!

"Complicated songs to perform and produce" indeed! There has always been a level of sophistication to Steel Pulse's music (both lyrically and musically) right from the early days while keeping it strictly roots. And I appreciate them for it.🎸🎤🎼🔊🔊🍀🍀

@@lawrencenjawe1935 that style infulences how I am trying to create reggae.
This is what heaven sounds like
The thing with Grizzly is the band looked young beside him, but he had the baddest sound of all. When he hit the snare the air molecules shuttered. No recordings can capture it.
oh my gosh look at this, history, true talent dedicated consistent all the way, love. where is the talent in this day?
Grandiosos, sin duda, los mejores del planeta💥❤️💥
You know there's great talent when they sound as good or better live than recorded.
Isso era Steel Pulse, roots massive
