Hello. I love your videos. I have a question about the steamer. Where did you get yours? And also when purchasing one what watt should we look to use. Because I see they have 800 and up.

Doctored Locks thanks for the info!!! Do you have any suggestions for any cheaper ones? I seen a few handhelds for like $60. Do you know of any good handheld ones?

I wish I did. Just look for the stats I went over and you can probably find one that works for you. Otherwise, I would stick to the method using an iron - you can do very similar dreads without spending a fortune.

Hello. So I'm eyeballing a jiffy steamer j-2 120 volts. Would you recommend this one? And if so are the 2 pictures one of the accessories I should purchase? Couldn't attach the pictures. But it's the head hose.

J-2s were used for years by dreadmaking stylists. The wig handle attachment is the one you want. It has a copper tube coming out of a wooden handle - it fits on all Jiffy models universally.

Can you skip both these options and just do the boiling in hot water method? I'm looking to make crochet dreads and this would just be a much easier option. I've seen others do this method but I see you didn't mention it and I also noticed their is different kanekalon hair (low and high temperature ones) and I am unsure if this method will still work for either type? Please reply if you can 🙂 thank you!

Hi there! Thanks so much for watching our tutorial! We do have a few other videos on other sealing methods, and I think the boil seal method for a more natural look will be exactly what you're looking for! You can watch it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoxmyNywopC_eJM.html Please let us know if you have any other questions!

@@doctoredlocks thank you, that's great. I actually stumbled across these videos after I saw this one so I've bookmarked them to refer to when I make my dreads. So just one quick question 🙂 I'm really happy to hear the boil seal method will work for the crochet dreads I want to do. I've been looking at Kanekalon hair and I've noticed some are called low temperature and some are called high temperature. Will the boil and seal method work with either type? If you can reply and let me know I'd really appreciate it as I'd hate to buy the wrong hair for the sealing method I'd prefer to do 🙂. Thank you so much!

Yes, generally, a boil sealing method should work on high or low temperature fibers. I can't speak to every brand of jumbo braid out there, but if the dreads become softer, less stiff, and able to move naturally, and a little more compact, you'll know it's working! Thank you so much for all the love! I'm thrilled that the tutorials have been so helpful! As always, let me know if there's anything help with.

What iron setting should be used?

You will need a high enough setting to create steam when you press into the wet towel you place over the dread.

Do you think it is possible to straighten synthetic dreads with that method?

  • @doctoredlocks

Absolutely! It depends on how they are made, but if they are just curled like normal, you absolutely can change the shape this way. :)

I tried it after your message!! I had curled them with a flexi rod. Let it dry, then straighten it with the iron and it work perfect!!! Thanks alot doc!!!

can you do this with human hair?

  • @doctoredlocks

Nope, only synthetics will stay in this shape. You can steam set your human hair dreads, but they won't last too long - only a few days to a couple weeks.
