Steam Whistle Compilation 3

Фильм және анимация

In the third installment of steam whistle compilations, we take a look at all the beautiful steam locomotive whistles we heard in 2020. These voices of the past are heard all over the United States, ringing out as reminders of these mighty machines that served this country. From the plains and woods of Pennsylvania, to the mountainous dense forests of West Virginia, join us as we take a listen to a selection of 1, 3, and 6 Chime steam whistles.
Want to see more of these steam locomotives? If so, be sure to check out the other videos on my channel for extended versions of what is seen in this video.

During the Parade of Steam at Cass when all engines are whistling at the same time time it always sheds a tear to me cause they are the voices of machines that are surviving together.

My dad and I have a Lionel train set from the 1930s my grandfather gave us before he passed. We play with it every Christmas then carefully store it back in the box. I hope to pass it down generations for the future family to play with as well. We love puffing the smoke and blasting the whistle

All about maximizing tractive effort. Better use of all that weight. Its kind of the idea that makes diesel locomotives as good as they are, and another thing, wheel slip is much less of a problem because of how they work compared to conventional steam locomotives. They are certainly slower, but they worked extremely well on steep grades and pulling really heavy loads short distances. They were also pretty successful as switcher engines, being able to start and stop and even accelerate to their slower speed pretty quickly. Even when you look at them you could almost imagine taking the trucks and sticking them under any diesel really. Quite a fascinating design considering it was first built before the turn of the 20th century. Who would have thought diesels would look so similar. Truck at the front and back with an engine in the middle powering both. Looking back now you could almost say it was ahead of its time.
