And although china is still opening coal plants, it's to; A - generate the power they need to produce clean energy projects that will phase out coal in the coming years, and B - Because they are shutting down plants close to cities and moving power production further away to combat smog and illness' related to it

  • @MrTynanDraper

    @MrTynanDraper

    @Steve Arthur when talking China the population is so huge that you have to talk "per capita" or % of total energy. China is actively building coal power plants all over the country. So what % of their energy generation is renewables compared to USA? My province of Ontario Canada has zero coal power with a mix of mainly hydro-electric and nuclear . . and the neighboring province of Quebec is mainly all renewable in the form of hydroelectric. uncontrolled and unmonitored methane emissions from natural gas and fracking is a major problem in USA and likely much of the world. .that refines petroleum products. Methane is many times worse than CO2 for global warming.

    All of the white smoke is blowoff water vapor, like what comes off a boiling kettle of water. In a Steam Engine, coal is used to heat water extremely hot. This creates a tremendous amount of pressure, which is harnessed and transferred into kinetic energy. This is what makes the train go. It may not be very efficient, but all the white smoke IS NOT pollution.

    Это же угольный разрез. В паровоз можно закидывать тот же уголь, который возят в вагонах, это проще всего, потому так и делают. Если поменять его например на дизель, то придётся топливо брать где-то ещё и доставлять в цистернах - это дорого и надо будет гонять доп.транспорт, который тоже будет дымить.

    Так то паровоз если не ошибаюсь, обладает более высоким КПД по сравнению с тепловозом (хотя возможно не такой мощный). Если вижу рельсы на видосах с китайскими производствами - то там почти всегда лишь паровозы. Плюс Китай добывает больше всех в мире каменного угля - т.е. паровозы ездят на собственном топливе, не надо нефть закупать.

I believed Iowa Interstate Railroad still has two QJ 2-10-2, with one being an Americanized configuration. Too bad not too many big steam were save in the U.S., especially those from Pennsylvania Railroad. Hopefully, the Chinese save some of good condition one for future generation to see what is a steam motive was like.

    Everyone here in the comments is talking about how these trains contribute to pollution even though they are steam powered. The 'smoke' everyone sees isn't smoke, it's steam. Saying steam locomotives cause poor air quality is like saying CLOUDS cause poor air quality. (by the way, those are some neat JS class 2-8-2s in the video, we have one here in my state)
