My favourite thing about this is the sheer volume of ex-NER locos there were still in full service in the 50s and 60s. Even though quite a few were preserved, it’s nice to see so many working together.

Where has this precious footage been hidng? No litter. No foreign weeds or bushes. A joy to watch. Everywhere so tidy. There may have been hardships but this was a better time.

Q6s. Q7s. V1/3s. V2s. J27s. K1s. A3s. A1s. A4s and even a B16/2! Alas, I remember them well. NYMR still use a J27, a Q6 and a K1.

Another amazing find. Fantastic shot at 12.34 of the coal trucks then going under the footbridge 👍

Excellent footage from the good old days, shame I was born in the wrong era.

5:43 The A4 “Lord Faringdon” (formerly “Peregrine”) is so dirty, it doesn’t look green! It was based at Aberdeen Shed at the time, where they refused to clean their A4’s because they thought it was dangerous.

Traitor here. Never liked the NE engines. Could here Q6's pulling into ICI Billingham when I was a boy. Used to count the axles going over a bad joint at a level crossing, from my bed. Always thought GWR engines better looking.

@@twinboo529 To my mind brutal looking with their huge, parallel boilers, although I did see a Q6 in Darlington Railway a few years ago. It looked better than I remembered.

Having been brought up on the Great Western myself, though with only the haziest memories of steam, I know what you mean. I do quite like the workaday brutalism of the NE engines though. Is any of the footage in this film shot on Teesside?
