It was announced yesterday ( 10/10/23) the Lyons Illinois Police department, investigating, a theft from a railroad yard in that city uncovered a warehouse, located in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago, that contained over 5 million dollars of brand name shoes, that had been stolen from freight trains, across the country ( some of the stolen merchandise was traced to a theft from a railyard in Memphis Tennessee) the stolen merchandise was shipped to this warehouse, then sold to unsuspecting, small independent, shoe stores. Another such Operation, was uncovered recently by police in Wilmette, Illinois in which pilfered merchandise such as diapers and over the counter medications, stolen from Chicago area retailers was being processed by the ring with store tags, and expiration dates being altered or obliterated, and shipped to small retailers as far away as California, where several related arrests were made.
